J.J. Bakery & Cafe: Best Taiwanese Style Cuisine in the Los Angeles Vicinity

Gwendolyn Taylor
If you are a Los Angeles native and enjoy some good oriental food, especially Taiwanese style pastries and cakes, then you have probably heard of J.J. Bakery. Famous for their unique tasting and delicately decorated cakes and fresh pastries, people will be pleased to know that they have opened a restaurant as well. Located on 18558 Gale Avenue (Suite 168) in the City of Industry, CA (zip code 91748), this new establishment has opened up in the new Seasons Plaza close to the Rowland Heights area, which is considered to be a prime and popular location for great Asian food and shopping.

J.J. Bakery & Café has everything from breakfast items to late night snacks, and everything in between. Their pricings are pretty decent as well. Taiwanese style breakfast items such as "Sweet Baked Sesame Cake" and "Chinese Scallion Pancakes" and over fifty other selections to choose from range from $0.90 to $3.75 a dish. Lunch and dinner portions can be chosen from the Taiwanese deli menu section and include entrees such as "Sticky Rice with Minced Pork" and "Pan Fried Daikon Cake". The lunch and dinner entrees pricing can range from $2.95 to $ 8.50. Specialty soups such as "Herbal Tripe Soup" and "Sesame Oil Chicken with Rice Wine" are also available. Feeling extra hungry? Try some of their inexpensive appetizers such as "Simmered Bean Curd" or "Marinated Baby Clams", or their tasty desserts such as "Iced Tofu Pudding" or "Lotus Seed Soup". Their primary specialty dessert is "Shaved Ice", a Taiwanese dish where you can add fun toppings such as almond jello or delectable fruits sprinkled with sweetened condensed milk on top of finely shaved ice. It is a dessert or a quick snack that can be enjoyed all year round. They also have a wide variety of drinks to choose from such as fruit smoothies, teas, blended fruit juices, and house special coffees.

Seating is decent, but limited, and since this establishment and their food is so popular, there can be a line wait sometimes. If you avoid going during prime eating hours, that you can avoid the wait time, other than that be prepared to wait around 10-20 minutes. Their hours run from 7 AM to 10 PM daily, so it is an ideal place to grab some good tasting breakfast, a quick lunch date, or a casual dinner with friends. I have been here several times with friends and is a highly recommended place to dine for authentic, delicious, and inexpensive Taiwanese style cuisine.
