Author of the wildly popular Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling is planning to give a midnight reading of her final Harry Potter book at the Natural History Museum in London on July 21, which is when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is set to be released, according to BBC News.

Rowling's books have sold over 325 million copies worldwide and have been made into five feature films. The fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be in theaters in June of 2007. The books have also been translated into 64 different languages worldwide.

According to one of the sponsors of this year's event, Bloomsbury.com, the Harry Potter event will be open to 1,700 people who will get to meet the author and have their book autographed. Of them, 500 will be selected randomly to attend the nightly reading. The event is expected to last all night.

"It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue," writes Rowling about the event on her website, jkrowling.com

Tickets to see JK Rowling at the Natural History Museum are free, but will be selected from a drawing set to run May 23 through June 11. Anyone living in the United Kingdom wishing to sign up online should visit http://www.bloomsbury.com/harrypotter/compform/comp_hp7.asp. And for American fans, more information can be found at http://scholastic.com/harrypotter/events/sweepstakes.htm. All those selected will receive one free copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Entries must be received by June 15, 2007. According to the online application, winners will be notified by email by June 18.

Midnight events are not new to Rowling, who in 2005 celebrated the publication of the sixth book about the magical schoolboy wizard, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" at Edinburgh Castle.

In this seventh and final Harry Potter book, two characters will die, although Rowling hasn't revealed which two characters they are.

On her website, JK Rowling urged her fans not to ruin the ending of the book by giving away spoilers. "I want the readers who have, in many instances, grown up with Harry, to embark on the last adventure with him without knowing where they are going."

Potter Mania has even reached the postal service. The news of this book signing announcement comes after it was revealed that Harry Potter will appear on a set of stamps issued by the Royal Mail. According to Bloomberg.com, they will be released July 17, just in time for all the excitement.

That's very interesting! Wow, I couldn't imagine sitting and listening to someone read an entire HP book...but, I suppose it would be interesting since it is the author and all...two words: ENERGY DRINKS. Great article!
