About the Author:

Joanne Rowling, more prominently known as J.K. Rowling, is a widely well-known British author. According to her biography on Scholastic's website, she was born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, United Kingdom. Prior to writing novels, Rowling attended Exeter University where she studied French and Classics. Her first novel was published in the United Kingdom in 1997 and the United States in 1998.

What She's Written:

J.K. Rowling is best known for writing the Harry Potter series of books. The series started with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which was published in the United Kingdom in 1997. The book was then published in the United States in 1998 under the name Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Her Harry Potter series contains seven books all beginning with the title Harry Potter and the. The books are Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows. Her last novel, Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007. According to Scholastic, her seven books have sold over 400 million copies.

Favorite Novel:

Of J.K. Rowling's novels, my favorite would have to be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Her final novel in the series ties up the loose ends and answers questions from the previous novels. One great thing about this novel is that there is still a lot of character development as some characters mature, while others have more of their back-story shared. This final installment brings the darkness of the series to a climax as the antagonist quickly gains more power over their world. This is also the novel that brings the final battle between the protagonist and antagonist to fruition.

Why Rowling Wins Favorite:

J.K. Rowling's creativity and talent is evidenced by the exciting and magical world she has created in her Harry Potter series. She has managed to create an entire world that stimulates and captivates one's imagination. Her novels are so interesting and well written that they are hard to put down. Finishing one chapter only makes you want to progress to the next. Those are the reasons why she holds a place as one of my favorite novelists.
