J-Mac's May Month in Review

Celtics and Lakers will meet in the NBA Finals. The Celtics sure didn't look like they'd make it this far, and the odds seem stacked against the beaten up C's heading into the Finals. But clearly, you can't count this squad out after the big series wins over the Cavs and Magic. Still, I don't see the Lakers talent being beaten in a seven game series.

Chicago and Philly in the Stanley Cup. My thought? Are there two markets that would make people root against both teams more than this? Maybe the Canadiens and Flyers Eastern Conference Finals? I don't want to see either cities fans celebrating a title all that much.

Roy Halladay and Dallas Braden are perfect. Well, Braden is far from the perfect pitcher, but regardless, both men threw perfect games in the month of May. That thought alone is pretty crazy. The first perfect game was thrown in 1880. 130 years later and the 19th and 20th are tossed in the same month! Pitching just seems a lot stronger this season than in the past.

No that's not a mistake - the Rays and Padres are the top teams in the AL and NL. The Rays can't really be that much of a surprise to people who know their baseball, but San Diego? They've got a chance to keep this up too, although I'm still not quite on the bandwagon.

Super Bowl in New Jersey in 2014. Just goes to prove the NFL doesn't care about the players or the fans - they care about the dollars. It's almost sad to think that the best two teams may not being playing on a level playing field, but one that greatly favors one of the two squads. Don't tell me any fan of a team in the southern half of the country isn't thinking of the possibility of facing a team that plays in the snow and not feeling like they're getting a fair shot. Tampa, the runner-up, has proven to be an excellent Super Bowl city. The fans and players are the ones missing out on a great 2014 Super Bowl experience.

Wishing Jeremy Shockey a speedy recovery. He may be a divisive figure to NFL fans, but here's hoping that there are no serious risks to Shockey's health from his recent scare.

Still no real news on NCAA Conference expansion. I think I should probably just give up bothering to think about it until it happens. Just seems like a big tease.

Feel free to check my archives for some of the other things and quick thoughts from other news this month. Here's to a great June!
