Although there are certain places in Pennsylvania that have higher unemployment rates because of their local economies and local industries, the state of Pennsylvania is holding it's own. The unemployment rate across the state of Pennsylvania continues to lag behind the national average. For example, in November 2008, Pennsylvania had a 6.1% unemployment rate while the national rate was 6.8%. Two other states in the northeast - New York and New Jersey - tied with Pennsylvania, despite all the job losses on Wall Street.
This is a good thing for Pennsylvania job seekers. While an unemployment rate of over 6% is nothing to be happy about, it means that Pennsylvania is doing better than many other states like Michigan, Rhode Island, California and Oregon who have had unemployment rates of above 8% for many months.
This is good news for Pennsylvania job seekers who are actively looking for jobs. It means that employers have job openings and are looking to hire workers. Many of these Pennsylvania employers are posting their jobs on local job boards.
Although all job seekers are encouraged to register on as many job boards as possible, there are some advantages of using some job boards over others. Some job boards will focus on certain industries and can have a better sampling of available jobs in a specific profession. Two examples are the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Job Net which serves only current state employees and the Pennsylvania State Nursing Association job board.
Here are a few general job boards for Pennsylvania job seekers.
Philly Jobs is a Beyond.com job board community. Job seekers can find local jobs in the Greater Philadelphia area, Southern New Jersey and Wilmington, Delaware region. Job seekers can search by industry or company.
