Job Fair in Washington D.C. For People with Disabilities

Amanda Lay
Hundreds of job seekers with disabilities were in attendance at the recent, "Job Fair for Job Seekers with Disabilities" which was held at the Woodley Park Marriott in Washington, DC. Primarily sponsored by, "Careers And The Disabled" Magazine, the job fair was intended for both current college students and college graduates with disabilities. Among the hundreds of exhibitors with current and future positions were agencies from both the federal government and the private sector.

Agencies had current and future openings locally, nationally and internationally. Open positions offered job seekers a variety of fantastic opportunities! Not to mention an endless potential for professional development, growth and advancement. For this important and often untapped population of job seekers, the sky was the limit!

Some of the agencies that were represented at the job fair included The United States Mint, The Centers For Disease Control, The Justice Department and The Food and Drug Administration. Most of the agencies required prospective employees to apply online for open positions using the Federal Government's official employment website, USAJOBS. You can visit the site by going to http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/.

As someone who is seeking a position in Human Resources, I had a strong interest in agencies which had current or future openings in Human Resources. During my time at the job fair, I visited the booths of agencies with these openings. I was encouraged to discover that many agencies have both current and future openings. As a matter of fact, several agencies were seeking applicants with my background, education, and skills. Representatives from several agencies strongly encouraged me to apply for current and future openings.

Attending the job fair was a terrific, informative, and educational experience for me. My time and effort were definitely well spent. As a result, I am more encouraged than ever in my search for gainful employment. To me, it is no longer a matter of, "if I find a job." I know I will find the right job for me in the Lord's perfect time. Since attending the job fair, I have become more diligent and proactive in my search for full-time employment. On a daily basis, I visit USAJOBS and apply online for open positions for which my education, skills and experience qualify me to submit an application. Are you serious about obtaining gainful employment? Do you want to become as independent as possible? Obtaining a job is an important step toward becoming independent. For that reason, I highly recommend that you attend an upcoming job fair in your area. You will be so glad that you did!
