Job Hunters: 6 Reasons to Start Your Own Business

Stephanie Modkins
Job hunting? Before you contact another potential employer, consider starting your own business. There are several benefits to being your own boss, below are six of them.

Reason 1: Your job hunt is over.

Let's face reality. Job hunting sucks! Searching the want ads and trying to impress people you don't necessarily like, stinks. The quickest way to end your frustration is to create your own means of making money. You can start working right away without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Reason 2: You pick your own career/job.

Tired of working only to pay bills? Want to start a career or do a job that is exciting to you? Start your own business. You select a career or job (one that makes you happy) and get paid in the process. Your blood, sweat and tears will be worth your effort.

Reason 3: Someone else doesn't set your salary.

The biggest drawback of many jobs is the limits on pay. Most employers start off new hires on the lowest salary. Then, with time, they give them raises until they reach a "capped" amount. They decide how much a job is worth. The only way to overcome this issue is to be your own boss, so you have the power to determine how much you can earn.

Reason 4: You control your own work hours.

Ever miss your child's ballgame or play because you had to work? Never look at another disappointed face again. Start your own business. This way, you get to set your own hours. You can schedule your work time around special events and "be there" for the people you love.

Reason 5: Your environment reflects you.

If you have ever toiled away for a company that reminded you more of a prison, you know the importance of the work environment. A fun part of being in charge is that you get to select the location, furniture and people. So, you can go elegant or grungy. You decide how you want your work environment to be.

Reason 6: You dictate your own destiny.

Fed up with letting another person determine your future? Start your own business. You will never get fired unless you let your own self go. You can do your job until your 80 or quit at age 50. You control your own destiny and determine the length and breadth of your career.

Ready to change your future? Stop job hunting and begin creating the type of work you want to do on your own terms.
