Job Hunting is like Fishing

Teach Him to Fish?

Yale Cohen
Job hunting is like fishing.
Just where are the fish?
In the pond down the road.
Or the rushing stream that slices the valley.
Or maybe miles at sea or the depths of some great lake.
I may need a net, gaffe or sea captain with sonar.
I've been patient at the end of the pier, and nursed midnight nibbles.
I've paced back on forth on the beach, surf-casting in face of the wind.
Waded the mud, glimpsed shimmering wigglers, swapped lures and bait and attitude.
I am tired of fishing, of waiting, of wet socks and stinking chum.
I am tired of fishing but I am hungry.
One fish will do, thanks.
