Job Hunting with a Positive Attitude

Goodnatured
Working as employment counselor inspired me to write this article on attitude. We deal with all kinds of attitudes, all kinds of situations and I thought it would be a good idea of what employers tell us but don't tell you after they have encountered YOU.

Your attitude doesn't only affect you, it affects everything around you.

1. I can teach you the job but can not teach you attitude!
This employer will take some one that may not necessarily be qualified for the job and train them simply because the person had the right attitude. So, if there is a company that you really want to work for, present a great attitude when you talk to the employer, don't show doubt or negativity, smile and be energetic, employers enjoy the freshness of this attitude. It will add a new spark to their work environment.

2. What happened to you is not my fault!
Find someone else to vent to about your last employer. Complain, Complain, Complain! Believe it or not, NOBODY wants to hear it. Especially a potential employer who is interviewing you. Like momma always said, "if you can't say nothing good, don't say nothing at all", this is so try when it comes to job searching and networking. Part of staying positive is not running your chops about your last employer, even if the situation warrants, do not do it!

3. Smile!!!!!
It is contagious! True, even on my worst morning, a client that walks through the door with a smile on their face can change my whole mood. It is true that your mood and attitude affects those around you.

4. Attitude in your clothing
Believe it or not, your clothes say alot about you! When I was about 16 I was on my way out the door with ripped up jeans on, my counselor told me to go change. He said, "if you go to school dressed like that, you will feel like that!" Look around, see the kids that have on the torn up jeans and bummy shirts, now honestly would you hire that kid? probably not!

These are just a few that I have come across, find something that inspires you to have and keep a good attitude.
Write in on your mirror so it is the first thing you see when you get up in the morning and the last thing you see before you go to bed at night. If you have a friend, child, family member, or spouse that needs a little motivation, write a little note and leave it somewhere where they will find it, leave them a voice mail or some other little thing that might make thier day. What ever it takes, Be That Inspiration. Remember, a smile is contagious, you may just inspire someone by accident.
