Job Hunting While Pregnant or After Childbirth

Maggie Lee
Sometimes life can be quite dramatic. Maybe last month, because you were tired of seeing the angry face of your old boss, you put a resignation letter on his desk and left the country with your husband for a recharging trip in Cuba.

This week, you two flew back to home happily and you start to search for a new job. Suddenly, the phone rings. You pick up the phone and find out it is your family doctor who announced: You are pregnant!

When you shared this cheerful news with your husband, you both feel very excited about welcoming a new member into this small family. But at the same time, you can't help asking yourself: "Should I hunt a new job during my pregnancy or I should wait after the baby is born?"

It might be hard decision to make, but you might get some ideas from the following points:

1- When you exercise your brain in hunting a job, your fetus also gets some good prenatal education. As we know, all behavior during the pregnancy can make a great impact on the development of the fetus. When you try hard to be a competitive candidate in the job-hunting market, the baby inside your tummy can also feel your courage and determination. Your baby will automatically learn these good characteristics from you.

If you win a job, you must work hard to impress your new boss. When your brain works hard, the baby inside your stomach is also exercising her/his brain to feel what her/his mother is doing. In this way, you might give a birth to high IQ baby in the near future.

2 - When you have a job during pregnancy, you may be able to make better financial preparation for welcoming your little angel. Nowadays, the cost of taking care of a young child grows year by year in America. If you can continue to bring some pennies back home during your pregnancy, you and your partner will feel less anxious about your family finances. Less financial pressure can make a pregnant woman more relaxed during her pregnancy. As stated, the emotion of a ready-to-be mother can always affect the emotion of the fetus.

3 - When you are pregnant, you can still be quite competitive in the job hunting market. Some people worry that the employer might not want to hire a pregnant woman as new employee. In fact, it's an unnecessary worry. According to some statistics, female employees with a stable family tend to serve the same company for a longer time. Nowadays, employee loyalty is an important element affecting the development of a company. So if you perform well in your interview, you can be even more competitive than other candidates.
