Job Loss, Early Retirement, Alzheimer's, Loss of Parents, Entrepreneurship, Grandparenting = Baby Boomer!

One Never Knows How Someone Feels, Until They Walk in Their Shoes.

David Lindberg
Yes, it's a long title for an article, but it could have gone on much longer. Such are the times and life phase of the current Baby Boomer Generation. In these days of technology changing communication and knowledge, creating today's highly opinionated type of social journalism, the Baby Boomers have been getting slammed from all sides. This is only really natural, as Boomers are the largest portion of the population. Whatever is going on in our country right now is going to naturally be affected by this largest consumer and social aspect of it's population...economy, discovery, social ideals, politics, and on and on. This all makes for a BIG and easy target for the Boomer Generation.

The phase of life that Baby Boomers are going through right now is a new one for them and how Boomers are affected and react will affect the country, without a doubt. As we now hear the voices of so many, due to the social impact of the Internet, we will hear from so many, with their individual opinions of the world and how it affects them. It is natural for every human to view the world through how it affects their lives.

Every generation has and will make it's own mistakes and it's own accomplishments. The Baby Boomers are no different. There has been so much negative commentary reflected toward the Boomers in recent times, much of which comes from younger generations, who, again naturally, look at the world from their own prospective, while perhaps not thinking about how much they are acting much the same as the targets of their criticisms. When the Boomers came of age, in the 1960's, they too, looked at the older generations with mistrust. They didn't think of them as the "Greatest Generation", who saved the world from it's evils of their times. They only knew their values seemed different and too restricting. Boomers in the 1960's challenged politics, war and the economy. It is much forgotten how millions of Boomers faced imprisonment, oppression and death, to fight for the ideals they believed in. When, in recent times, has a whole generation of youth faced such opposition to change the direction of its government, when it thought it was harming the world and it's people? When was the last time we saw a whole generation being beat and even killed in the streets for generally peaceably opposing the government?

The Baby Boomer Generation dealt with the world and the country with ideals that were formed by how they viewed their previous generations affects and how they wanted their world to be during their lifetime. Now, that the Boomers are facing older phases of their lives, as age will do, it causes humans to look at the world with more wisdom, experience and history. Boomers are trying to face the latter stages of their lives with their ideals of how they want their children and grandchildren to live.

Sure, there have been mistakes along the way, and yes, some large mistakes, but there have also been some huge discoveries in technology, healthcare and ecology. Boomers created words like "Going Green" and "organic, healthy eating of foods with less processing for better health". Answers are never absolute and immediate, but we are all trying to leave some mark in time to show that we existed and we think of our future generations and how we can leave the world better off than we were blessed to enjoy.
