Job Openings Are Highest in Education and Health Services

Where are the job openings in the United States? According to a report released this week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job openings are mostly in the Education and Health Services sectors. Last week, the U.S. government reported an increase in the number of new jobs created even though the unemployment rate also went up.

That was good news about our two-year recession showing signs of improvement. Millions of people in America are looking for jobs and according to a new report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there are almost 2.7 million job openings for anyone looking to get a job.

If you are a recent college graduate or high school graduate, finding a job in today's job market will be a challenge since 2.3 million people were laid off from their job, discharged from their job, or quit their job in March. In fact, in February 2010, more people quit their job (47 percent) than got discharged for laid off from their job (46 percent).

The fewest layoffs were in government jobs and the good news is they are hiring now. In fact, the Federal Government has 408,000 job openings. State and local governments have 265,000 job openings. If you want job security, the government is still the place to be.
