Job Openings Are Highest in Education and Health Services
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Reports 2.7 Million Jobs Open in the U.S
That was good news about our two-year recession showing signs of improvement. Millions of people in America are looking for jobs and according to a new report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics there are almost 2.7 million job openings for anyone looking to get a job.
If you are a recent college graduate or high school graduate, finding a job in today's job market will be a challenge since 2.3 million people were laid off from their job, discharged from their job, or quit their job in March. In fact, in February 2010, more people quit their job (47 percent) than got discharged for laid off from their job (46 percent).
The fewest layoffs were in government jobs and the good news is they are hiring now. In fact, the Federal Government has 408,000 job openings. State and local governments have 265,000 job openings. If you want job security, the government is still the place to be.
Where Are the Jobs?
While you are getting your resume ready and posting it on popular Internet job boards like CareerBuilder, SimplyHired, Indeed, and USAJobs, you might want to consider Job Search Agents that send automatic emails to you for certain industry-specific jobs. Here are the sectors of our economy that have job openings (seasonally adjusted) according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
Education and Health Services - 510,000 job openings
Other Trade, Transportation, Utilities - 473,000 job openings
Professional and Business Services - 420,000 job openings
Federal Government - 408,000 job openings
Retail Trade - 314,000 job openings

Accommodation and Food Services - 242,000 job openings

Construction - 77,000 job openings
Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation - 20,000 job openings
Willing to Relocate for a Job?
You may have had your dreams set on working in the Big Apple or sunny Southern California, but you better head to the Southern region of the United States if you want to find a job. The South has almost 1.5 million job openings. It seems that more people quit their job, got laid off from their job or were fired from their job in the South than in any other region.
The South region where the jobs are includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The regions in the United States that have the most job openings that you want to plug into your Job Search Agent are:
South - 1,477,000 job openings
Midwest - 954,000 job openings
West - 835,000 job openings
Northeast - 695,000 job openings
Good luck while you are job hunting and don't quit your day job until you find your dream job!

Great article Aly.
David got pretty deep there lol thanks for the report Aly
I don't know where those jobs are... they are not in California where severe cuts in both areas continue to devastate both systems. I suspect that statistics, like Scripture, can be "quoted for the Devil's purpose."
