My wardrobe changed-
Suits and high heeled shoes to jeans and sneakers.
My workplace was altered-
No fancy office, just the four walls of my home.
My work hours amended-
Nine-to-five is now twenty-four-hours-a-day.
My paycheck revised-
And is infinitely better:
The smile on my daughter's face,
Seeing her very first steps,
A sweet sigh from those baby lips as she rests.
The twinkle in her eyes as she colors her first picture,
A spontaneous hug,
Reading her favorite book six more times before bed.
A little ballerina dancing for pure joy in the living room,
Wiping a small tear after a fall,
Listening to tales from her fertile imagination.
Watching this tiny human grow and learn,
Viewing the wonder of each day through her eyes,
And hearing again those precious words, "I love you, Mom."
My wardrobe has changed.
My workplace has altered.
My work hours have been amended.
My paycheck has been revised.
My life has been altered and I cannot dream of anything better-
For job satisfaction has never been sweeter.
