One thing that most African Americans don't realize is that first impressions are everything. When you are going to apply for a job, you need to make sure you look your very best. Some things that you shouldn't be wearing are gold teeth, big chains and please make sure your hair is nice and neat. Believe it or not the first thing that a hiring manager is going to look at is your personal appearance. If you are applying for a job looking like the local neighborhood thug, then more than likely you are going to be looked over for the position that you are applying for. You want to make sure you are dressed in a descent fashion. Slacks and a polo shirt or a dress shirt with nice shoes is what most employers want to see. They are looking to hire clean cut people, not someone who looks like they just came from the streets.

Have A Firm Handshake

Your handshake tells a lot about you. I dead fish hand shake tells an employer that I don't have confidence and the drive to do the task that I am applying for. This kind of handshake also says that I really don't care about this position, the only thing I want is for you to give me a paycheck. I firm handshake says, I know I can do this job and if you do not hire me, then you are making a big mistake. You want make sure when you are shaking you possible employers hand that you do not try to break it. You want to have a firm handshake, but you don't want it to be knuckle breaker. Make sure you follow this particular tip. This could be the very thing that makes or breaks the decision on you being hired.

Don't Give Vague Answers

One thing that most African Americans make there mistake when it comes to trying to find a job is the interviewing process. When I would interview African Americans, I would always see them doing the same exact thing when it came to interviews which is answering the interview questions with vague answers. When an employer is interviewing you, he or she wants you to go into detail when they are asking you certain questions. If you give them short vague answers, then they don't really get to know you and most of all they will not know if you would be the best person to actually fill the position. When answering interview questions, make sure that you think before you speak. Please do not go and say the first thing that comes out your mouth. Make sure you give clear examples to the questions that are being asked.
