As a budding writer I am always seeking new ways to hone my writing skills and opportunities to write. Recently I was frustrated with my job and seeking new portals to write for . . . . at the same time. Suddenly the universe opened and lead me to Jobs of the Damned - a writing contest that allows you to write (vent) about the horrors of your job (past, present or -if you're psychic - future) and compete for a weekly and monthly prize.
At first I thought, "Surely no one will pay me for the madness I've endured just to live the American Dream". But, I'm adventurous. So, I entered two stories.
Lo and behold, I won!!! After submitting my stories I contacted all of my friends, family and a few enemies and instructed them to go to http://www.jobsofthedamned.com and vote on the two stories I had submitted.
Even though their guidelines were right there in black and white I was still not convinced that this operation was legit. Then Sunday evening (when the weekly contest ended) I received a message stating that I had won. Yippee for me! Then I got suspicious because they said they would wire me my winnings, send a check or put it in my PayPal account. Well, I've watched enough 20/20 expose's to know a scam when I hear it. So, I gave them my PayPal information KNOWING I would never see that money. HOURS later it was in my account and very real. TWO HUNDRED BUCKS!!!! And just before a trip to Baltimore.
So, as always, I had to share this experience with the world. Therefore, if you are a writer, budding writer, have a minor desire to write or just have some horrific stories about work experiences; submit to Jobs of the Damned! The best part is, if you are not affiliated with them you can enter as many times as you want. AND you stand a chance to win their monthly prize of $2500!!!!!
Happy writing people! My story "Dead Deadline" (the winner) will pale in comparison when I start writing about my military experiences. The time I tried to shoot my supervisor when I was stationed in Japan, alone, will be stiff competition.
