More than 5 out of 10 people have some sort of health related problem they got from their job or one they had. It's from the consistent repetition of anyone from a grocery cashier to a bus driver. The body can only handle a certain amount of repetitions until it wears itself down. Some people can do certain tasks longer than others, such as lifting and carrying boxes. Everyone's body is different and some people will feel discomfort in their back or neck from just standing in one place for an eight hour shift. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are a list of the top most unhealthy jobs.
Top Most Unhealthiest Jobs
The number one job adding up the most injuries and most days lost of work is construction worker. It's no surprise this one is so dangerous, considering all the ladders, falling lumber, sharp tools and heavy machinery. I've tried construction and dealing with the weather is dangerous in itself. The extreme cold and heat can take its toll on your body along with the possible slip hazards from rain and ice. Construction is very handy to know but, you will get your share of bumps and bruises.
Next, the number two job is an office administrator or secretary. The constant sitting in the chair leaves you with a stiff back and using a phone or computer for the entire shift can be repetitive. This can cause problems with your hands or wrists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics compiled this particular job as one of the most unhealthiest probably because it is such a widely used job. It goes by how many work days lost per year.
Jobs three, four and five are nursing aides, housekeepers and waiters. These jobs don't seem dangerous but, they made the list of being the most unhealthiest. They all are probably the most common jobs around and you or someone you know has probably had one or two.
People shouldn't have to wear themselves out leaving themselves in pain or discomfort from doing something they really don't want to be doing in the first place. Businesses should be more concerned about ergonomics and how the job is affecting their employees. There would be less people on disability if things were adjusted or different tasks were shared between many workers. In reality, that arthritis you got from your job is a small price to pay when you are able to feed your family and live in a warm cozy home.
