Wal-Mart - Greeter
Probably the most available retail stores we're familiar with throughout the United States. Seniors are most seen as greeters welcoming visitors and shoppers to the store. As part of their job they might direct customers to the right area or check receipts and bags for quality assurance. Just because they are older doesn't necessary mean that they won't be able to catch you when the alarm beeps. This position is suitable for seniors who are more relaxed in nature, yet still awake enough to work their duties. Even wheel chair bound applicants are considered.
Hannafords, Market Basket - Grocery Bagger
For the more energetic seniors who prefer to keep busy constantly it is recommended that he or she looks into a position as a grocery bagger for the local stores mentioned above or such stores nearby. This position involve a bit of lifting and bagged items can be heavy, so it is important that seniors applying for this position have good physical strength in the upper body area, the arms, back, and shoulders. The fun part about being a grocery bagger is your interaction between customers and cashiers to make your days go by faster.
Credit Agency - Collection
I met an older gentleman who was really sincere and friendly at an outing one summer. When questioned what he does for work he mentioned being a bill collector for a company. He takes care of his wife but is a retiree working to just have something else to do. He didn't mind the work. His good nature was perfect to handle incoming stress considered intolerable by others. If you have the abilities to handle calls, there are plenty of collection jobs out there calling out to you.
National Passport Center, National Visa Center - Document Specialist
Would you consider a position as a desk jockey? The above companies have a rewarding training program where you can become a Passport Specialist or an Adjudicator of federally regulated forms and guidelines. To be considered for the position, he or she must have had some post high school education or have gained experience equivalent to the position seeking. You may train others after some years there but over all this work is very doable and challenging. Also you may also earn recognition by capturing fraudulent documents.
Salvation Army - Sorter
Last but not least there are thrift stores in your town or city like the familiar one above. This position involves receiving incoming items that need sorting for display out on the floor. Seniors are seen working with other seniors here who may be cashiers or stockers. The place is always inviting due to the friendly atmosphere seniors provide by keeping thing simple among themselves as well as customers they serve.
