Joe Biden Facts

Quick Factsheet About Joe Biden

Ryan Kopf
Senator Joe Biden, the Delaware democratic senator, is the sixth longest serving senator in the United States senate right now. On August 23, 2008, Barack Obama announced he was choosing this democratic senator for Vice President. Although there have been complaints from Hillary Clinton supporters (or more likely complaints from people PRETENDING to be Hillary supporters) that he did not choose her, most democrats agree this was a good choice. The only attack that ever had much effect on Barack Obama was attacking his lack of 'experience' and choosing Joe Biden, a long-time senator, is an excellent counter argument.

Joe Biden, however, is not nearly as exciting nor as well known as Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. Most agree that this is okay, though, because Barack Obama's sparkling, sesquipedalian rhetoric is uplifting and exciting enough for both of them - especially in comparison to the competition. Many people want to know a little bit more about Joe Biden, so here are some quick Biden Facts.

His Education: Biden attended and graduated from Archmere Acadamy in Claymont, the University of Delaware in Newark. He double majored in history and political science. He then earned his JD (Juris Doctor) from Syracuse University College of Law.

His Past: Biden has had more than one marriage, after his first wife and infant daughter died in a tragic accident.

His Office: Biden took office on January 3, 1973 at age 30.

His Policies: Biden has been involved in creating many laws over the years. Among the issues he has supported includes: a violence against women act, various crime prevention measures, fighting drugs, and promoting civil liberties. He has a pro-teacher union voting record, he believe action should be taken on global warming, and he has worked on a number of initiatives to improve the economy including a high rating for his support of unions. He also supports, essentially universal healthcare considering his 100% approval rating by the American Public Health Association. He voted for the Iraq war, but said later that it was poorly managed and he wants to bring our troops home.

Overall Senator Joe Biden is a well balanced politican, who will likely bring a good quantity of experience to the Democratic Presidential Ticket, making it harder to attack Barack Obama. Obama has been cited as having a teflon shield against nearly all attacks except experience, and Joe Biden is possibly the best candidate to add that extra layer.

No help at all? Perhaps you're only looking for bad things and smears? Well if they existed in a big fashion I would have covered them here. Joe's not that exciting, but he's a hard working longtime serving Senator.

Thanks for the enlightening article. I did not know about his record and can see now why he has been chosen. As for your comment about the Hilary supporters being upset about her not being chosen, well, I think that there are unfortunately some of them that will not vote for him because of this. Other than that percentage, I can see him doing well with this veep.
