He Really is the Pits!

Peter Flom

Who is Joe Pitts?

Joe Pitts is the representative from Pennsylvania's 16th congressional district. He has a BA from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and served in the Air Force, including service in Vietnam. Pitts has represented NC-05 since 1997 (Pitts Website). He was born in 1939 in Lexington, Kentucky (Wikipedia)

Pennsylvania 's Sixteenth Congressional District

PA-16 is in southeastern Pennsylvania. It includes the far western suburbs of Philadelphia, all of Lancaster county, and a sliver of the city of Reading (Wikipedia). PA-16 is slightly more Republican than the average district - McCain won, but only by 51-48. It's not nearly as conservative as its representative - Pitts was rated the 405th most liberal representative by VoteView.

Joe Pitts and abortion

Joe Pitts is a strong opponent of women's right to choose, and prefers to force women to give birth. He's gone so far as to vote for a bill declaring fetuses to be humans (see On the Issues).

Joe Pitts and civil rights

Joe Pitts does not support civil rights. He voted to ban same sex marriage (including wanting to amend the constitution), voted to ban gay adoptions in DC, and voted to stop enforcing hate crimes (see On the Issues).

Pitts and executive pay

Corporate executives make a lot of money. Some people think shareholders of corporations should regulate executive pay. Pitts disagrees. He voted against bills to do that. (see On the Issues)

More issues

Pitts has voted against renewable energy, for more oil refineries, against money for higher education, against parental leave for federal employees, against electoral votes for the District of Columbia and yes on allowing the government to spy on us without warrant or oversight. (See On the Issues).

Rep. Pitts' fundraising

Rep Joe Pitts got 61% of his money from PACs and only 38% from individuals. The PACs he got the most from include health professionals, the pharmaceutical industry, and the oil and gas industry. (see Open Secrets).

Joe Pitts' sponsorship of bills

Joe Pitts has sponsored 95 bills in his time in Congress. 86 never made it out of committee and only 4 have been enacted. The most recent bill he sponsored that became law renamed a post office. One bills he has recently sponsored would make it easier to license nuclear plants (see GovTrack).

Donna said, "He seems to be against everything." Well, look at his party...

How the hell did he get elected? He seems to be against everything and says so, I bet, in the name of God.
