"Joe the Plumber" Supports Puppy Mills!

Says the Poor Economy Needs Them --

Donna Thacker
"Joe the Plumber" aka Samuel Wurzelbacher apparently enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame back in the day of the Obama/McClain/Palin 2008 elections, because he is at it again. This time he has taken on the battle of puppy mills, especially those in Missouri.

He, apparently, has no compassion for the thousands of dogs, cats and puppies who live in filth and squalor in these mills. Instead Joe the Plumber has teamed with those who are fighting for the "rights" of these puppy mill owners.

Joe the Plumber Says Economy Needs These Puppy Mills

Joe the Plumber has written articles and even hosted a radio show in his support of what he says are "Constitutional" rights of puppy mill owners. In an article he wrote, entitled "We've Been Sacked by the Humane Society," Joe the Plumber refers to The Humane Society of the United States as, a "radical animal rights organization."

According to Joe the Plumber, cracking down on puppy mills in Missouri will cause an economical hardship on the people that run them and the stores that sell puppies that are raised in these puppy mills. Joe's concern is that by putting puppy mills out of business, the price of dogs will be so high that only the rich will be able to afford them!

Joe the Plumber's theory is that, if Proposition B passes in Missouri, the regulations for puppy mills all over the country will be a lot stiffer. For some reason, Joe the Plumber sees this as a bad thing! Apparently, people having jobs at the expense of suffering animals is alright with Joe the Plumber.

Joe the Plumber and Missouri Puppy Mills

Missouri has been in the national news repeatedly for being the top state for puppy mills. According to reports in the newspapers and the television ads there are nearly 3000 active puppy mills in the state of Missouri alone.

Proposition B, to be voted on in the November ballot is a measure to enforce tighter regulations on these puppy mills. The controversy is that, according to Joe the Plumber, these measures are too stiff and will put reputable breeders out of business, causing more economical hardships.

Many reputable breeders and vets, in Missouri and across the nation, strongly disagree with Joe the Plumbers opinion, and state that they support the stiffer regulations, and will vote yes on Proposition B. The animal protection act in Missouri is 18 years old and desperately needs updated, many legislators in support of Prop. B say. Joe the Plumber disagrees.

According to Joe the Plumber, attacking puppy mills is only the first step in animal control legislation. He even goes so far as to say that it is the Humane Society of the United State's way of eventually turning us all in to vegetarians! All this writer has to say about Joe the Plumber is that I certainly hope he doesn't own any animals!

This guy is the most uninformed, uneducated, jerk that ever had a chance to be in the public eye. He should just crawl back into the hole he came out of. Just because he came out of a puppy mill from his childhood does not make them right.

    And this surprises you...why?

Personally, this bill does not affect where I live but I can see why some are opposed to the wording...." access to potable water that is not frozen, and is free of debris, feces, algae, and other contaminants"...Not rocket science here, but there are those who will use the "free of debris" wording for their own agenda. Other parts of the bill are worded the same way. Do I think it puppy mills should exist? Hell, no! But I also feel breeders should have their own agency for monitoring and keep the government out of it. If an agency finds an owner/breeder/operator in violation of the code of ethical animal treatment then the offense should be considered a crime of animal cruelty...the same as any livestock farmer. But to single out dog breeders or poultry farmers and not include every animal owner, that is wrong. Note that hunting dog breeders are not subject to this proposition?

Well, I did, Joe, didn't you see all of the sources I listed?

Why don't you do some real research before you print this trash???
