Alex Rodriguez Hit a Grand Slam and Joe Torre Received His 2000th Career Win as Yankees Manager

The Yankees have definitely had better seasons to date, but that was the last thing on Joe Torres mind as he picked up his 2000th career win as Yankee's manager. Mariano Rivera got the final out and gave the ball to Torre. Surely the Yankees played an outstanding game against the Chicago White Sox, but whether the score was 4-3 or 10-3, a win is a win. The Yankees won the game 10-3 and along with Joe Torres 2000th win, Alex Rodriguez hit his 15th career grand slam in the 6th inning.

After Rivera gave Joe Torre the baseball, he reached up and patted Rivera on the cheek with the ball, which was basically a thank you for giving Torre this win while reaching a very important milestone in both the Yankees and Joe Torres careers. Joe Torre stated "Two thousand. Without the opportunity here, I wouldn't have been close." Joe Torre also managed the Cardinals, Braves and Mets, but the Yankees are a legacy compared to all of those other teams. "It's been a great ride. I've appreciated it. The players have been the best part of it for me. And they proved it again tonight," Torre stated once again.

Joe Torre became the 10th manager in the history of Major League Baseball to reach 2000 wins and is nine shy of tying Leo Durocher for the ninth place spot. Torre has been through a lot of tough times with the Yankees, but for some reason, they always seem to come through for Torre, whether it is a much needed win or what they have done tonight for Torre, it's just a very special team and I truly believe that they will come through this season and have one heck of a ride, once again.

Along with Torre's 2000th career win, he got to share the moment with Yankee's stars Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada, who have been long time players for Torre. Back in 1996 until now, Rivera and Torre have been through a lot and he has saved a lot of games for Torre. There are plenty of games left, but this was a special night for Torre and the Yankees, which will be remembered forever. The New York Yankees are 27-31 and will look to break the .500 mark within the next week. Roger Clemens returns to the mound against the Pirates.
