When we first entered Joe's Crab Shack, there was a wait that was to be expected at dinner time on a Saturday afternoon. Clustered in a busy shopping area with many other eating choices around, this gave be high hope on the quality of the food, if there was a wait to get seated the food must be all that it is cracked up to be. As we waited to be seated, we noticed the noise from people talking was louder than most restaurants, almost overwhelming.
Joe's Crab Shack offers a variety of appetizer and entrée choices. There is truly something for anyone who likes seafood. During our visit there was a special for $5 appetizers, which we completely took advantage of. Our party of four ordered the Double Dip, Bucket of Shrimp, Crab Stuffed Mushrooms and the Seafood Fun-Do for appetizers. Out of the four we tried, the Seafood Fun-do is the only one I would get again.
Our meals were as much of a disappointment as the appetizers. The cost far outweighed the amount of food and the taste was averaged. The Steam Pots are filled with newspaper on the bottom to make the illusion of more food. Don't let the menu pictures fool you. There are more potatoes, sausage, and corn them seafood. The crab cakes in the East Coast Platter were more filler than crab leaving a lot to be desired.
The service was lacking. I am not sure of the reason, whether it was under staffing or an inexperienced waitress. Our drinks were empty for nearly 10 minutes before we even saw our waitress to ask for a refill and then another 10 minutes before she returned with them. The only thing she was quick about was handing us our check so they could seat the next unsuspecting customers.
The final verdict on Joe's Crab Shack is Joe don't know Jack about crab or any other seafood for that matter. Maybe the original Joe's Crab Shack made you want to come back for more, but the one in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania won't see me returning again.

Post a CommentWow, too bad. I am sure the original Joe's was terrific, but he evidently doesn't keep tabs on his franchises.
I had a similar experience at Joe's Crab Shack in Indianapolis. The place was obnoxiously loud, the food was lousy and the service was even worse. I loved your "Joe don't know Jack about seafood" comment. Too funny!
