Joey Buttafouco Released from Prison Again

If it Walks like a Snake, It's Joey Buttafuoco

Being the native Long Islander that I am...A Buttafouco story always catches my eye. I grew up very close to the place where this whole thing happened, and Amy and I are about the same age, so I always find myself curious as to how the lives of those involved in the Buttafuoco story unfold.

According to Associated Press, Joey Buttafuoco was released from prison the morning of Saturday, May 28th, 2007 after serving three months in a California prison for illegally possessing ammunition.

Over 10 years after his wife was shot in the face by the teenager he was screwing around with, and he is still finding himself in trouble. Remember when the Buttafouco's appeared on the Phil Donahue show and an audience member stood up and said 'If it walks like a snake...and talks like a snake....then Mary-Jo...he's a snake!" ... Obviously that guy was right. Where ever happened to that guy anyway?

Most recently Joey Buttafouco was serving time for possessing illegal ammunition in his Chatsworth home in 2005. The ammunition was found by the Los Angeles County Probation Department after a search. He was on probation for a felony insurance fraud conviction. At the time he owned a San Fernando Valley auto body shop, (like the one he owned on Long Island in 1992) and he told undercover investigators hot to file false claims, and cheat insurance companies. He served a year in jail for that incident.

Here's a little history lesson in case you were sleeping through the media circus surrounding the story back in the early 1990's.

Joey Buttafouco a 36 year old man with a wife and kids', had an 'affair' with the then 16 year old Amy Fisher. He carried on a 'relationship' with Amy.
She claimed (and still does) that he wanted her to kill his wife. So, she approached Joey's wife at her Long Island home...one thing leads to another, and Mary Jo gets shot in the head. Only Mary Jo survived. (That's the short version of the story.)

After Amy Fisher shot Mary Jo Buttafouco, she was sentenced to 15 years jail for attempted murder.. However Joey got nailed with only one count of statutory rape. He finally ended up pleading guilty (after first denying it) and was sentenced to six months in county jail.

The next time he found himself in trouble was in 1995. Joey pled no contest to soliciting sex from an undercover policewoman. Mary Jo stuck by his side. (The "if it walks like a snake" comment on Donahue's show didn't sink in till later.)

Fast forward to 2006 when the now adult Amy Fisher agreed to appear on The Insider along with Joey Buttafuoco. This snake actually sat there and called her a 'hooker' and a 'druggie' among other things. Amy said "You're still a liar, and you are still a despicable person, and everybody will leave here today knowing that". To which he replied "I don't think so."

So has he changed much? I don't think so.
