John 3:16

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

That simple verse from the King James Bible is one that most people have heard from their earliest days in Sunday School. It is quoted by children, adults and seniors throughout their lives. It contains an offer of salvation to the lost, an introduction to the Saviour, and a promise guaranteed by almighty God of everlasting life. Let's look a bit closer at this marvelous verse.

"For God so loved the world,". God the heavenly Father loved the world. Though he did not love the wickedness there, he loved the people of the world, though sinners all. Sinners could not share in God's heavenly kingdom.

"That he gave his only begotten Son,". God gave his only natural born Son, Jesus Christ as a sacrifice to die on the cross for sinful mankind.

"That whosoever believeth in him should not perish,". All sinners that ask Jesus to forgive their sins and save their souls will not be separated from God by hell. "Whosoever" means the drug addict, the homosexual, the Jew, the Muslim, the lost church member, the child molester, the gangbanger, the biker and all sinners who will come to Jesus, confess and forsake their sins and ask Jesus to save them.

"But have everlasting life." The saved (forgiven sinners) will live eternally (forever) with God.

No one lives a life free from sin, but all sinners are assured that if they come to Jesus they will not be turned away. They will be saved.
