John Calvin Coolidge, was namesake of dad
One sibling, Abigail, was the only one he had.
His mom, Victoria, died when he was twelve
Five years later sister Abigail died as well.

Law school after college, costly and extensive
Apprenticing at a law firm, avoiding expenses.
Admitted to the bar, at age of twenty five
His clientele grew, and he quickly thrived.

He married a teacher named Grace Goodhue
The first time she saw him was really a view
He was wearing nothing but underwear and hat.
She saw him in a window, he shaved like that.

The only two children, were Calvin and John
Their marriage was reported to be a happy one.
On the White House lawn, in 1923,
Coolidge lit the first National Christmas Tree

Silent and serious, but he was assertive,
He served six years, our president thirty.
Calvin Coolidge was quiet and withdrawn,
In office, he refused to use the telephone.

"I'll make him say more than two words, I bet"
This came from a White House Dinner guest
When he heard of the wager, he only sighed,
"You lose", were the only words he replied.
