John Edwards: Another Lying Politician

Claire Luna-Pinsker
Every week it's reported that another politician, a well-liked politician, has fallen off their moral band wagon to indulge in acts betraying their wife and family. The same acts they preach against and mandate laws against, they manage to succumb to. They smile into cameras, are very charismatic, preach family morals, all while lying between their teeth.

I have to say I was one of the voters who fell for John Edwards, the former Democratic presidential candidate. He had the looks, walked the walk, and talked the talk, standing up for strong family values. He stood by his wife's side as she stood by his, while she battled cancer. Do we really know or care what goes on behind their closed doors? Allegedly it has now been reported and confessed to by Mr. Edwards, that he had a, "brief affair," with Rielle Hunter. He slipped into the murky pit of his own lusty greed.

His quote, "In the courser of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up, feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself."

This quote was reported in, "The New York Post."

Why do these fallen politicians profess to apologize after the cats let out of the bag, or about to be let out? Why do they have their wives, who look like deer stuck in headlights, stand stiffly by their sides? What is it that makes these politicians feel they're above reproach?

Another popular male politician has fallen off his pedestal, sinking into the murky pit of his own lusty needs. John Edwards, the former Democratic presidential candidate, has joined the ranks of fallen politicians by confessing to an incident of infidelity while he was on the campaign trail.

John Edwards, stood his ground for family values; speaking about the heartfelt lost of his child, the encompassing love he has for his family and spoke about how much he admired his wife in how she dealt with cancer while supporting him and taking care of his children. He preached his belief in God, attended church, was a guest speaker on television sharing thoughts on the importance of family. He held himself up high on that pedestal.

This is all fine and good, but the lives of his family are forever affected because of his choice to fall from grace. Why do these politicians speak about their strong beliefs in morals and family values while acting like vain hypocrites in their own personal lives? Do they think they're too lofty to be touched? Does lust, greed and power overwhelm them, bringing on their downfall?

Society's changed today with a definite moral decline, and finding public figures for our children to look up to is quite difficult. When it comes to filling political seats should moral conduct be a strong prerequisite? Should politicians be allowed to preach high moral family values and be allowed to live their personal lives free from scrutiny? At the moment when their immorality's finally exposed, should we accept vain apologies, crocodile tears and vows to redeem themselves?

Wives who decide to stand by their husband's sides, what are they teaching their children, our children? Should we teach young girls to accept humiliation and infidelity in their marriages, forgive husband's sordid indiscretions? It all comes down to whether we should continue to stand by our political figures, build up their pedestals, and hope they don't have a downfall and utter a twisted apology.

The End

Update. John Edward's estranged wife Elizabeth has left this earth after a long struggle with breast cancer. Now how will John continue on with life knowing he inflicted so much emotional pain on her due to thinking below the belt while she was dealing with her cancer battle? May their children remember the love and respect their mother attempted to instill in them. RIP Elizabeth, and fly with your angel son!

Could't agree more. I am sick of these guys. Let's elect a woman--maybe there will be less of this behavior.

Excellent viewpoint, more people need to think like this! Its a shame how easily we accept and forgive these politicians are the same ones so quick to judge and condemn those of us who don't follow their moral ideology. And I agree, I can't believe the wives stand by their sides over and over again, we are totally sending the wrong message to our young girls! Great job!
