John Edwards Engaged to Rielle Hunter, According to Reliable Source

John Edwards is secretly engaged to Rielle Hunter, according to the "National Enquirer". But is the story true?

Well, since the "National Enquirer" was right (for the most part) about his affair with Rielle Hunter as well as its report that Rielle Hunter was going to give birth to John Edwards' love child, the tabloid probably feels that it could report anything about him at this point (maybe that John Edwards and George W. Bush are secret lovers? Or that Michelle Obama is pregnant with yet another love child of his? The possibilities are endless!). Unfortunately, the "National Enquirer" decided to keep things realistic by simply reporting that John Edwards and Rielle Hunter are engaged.

Of course this story comes at a convenient time for the "National Enquirer" to generate sales. This week a grand jury is hearing evidence in a case against John Edwards in connection with $1 million in campaign funds used to conceal his affair with Rielle Hunter. John Edwards' estranged wife Elizabeth Edwards lost her battle with cancer on December 7, 2010 and news just broke yesterday that Elizabeth Edwards didn't name John Edwards in her will, leaving everything to her children Cate (the executor of her will), Emma Claire, and Jack. Of course this news came as no surprise after what John Edwards put her through at such a difficult time in her life, but the news of John Edwards' engagement to Rielle Hunter is definitely surprising.

After all, it's hard to imagine John Edwards putting his kids through another round with the tabloids so soon after their mother's death (it's really impossible to try and imagine how they feel at this point). However, since he was left out of Elizabeth Edwards' will, perhaps John Edwards feels that this small punishment will win him just enough sympathy to make this the perfect time to sneak in news of his engagement to Rielle Hunter. There's also always the possibility that he thinks there's been enough grieving time at this point (it's been exactly a month since Elizabeth Edwards' death) and is feeling the pressure to make Rielle Hunter an honest woman (sometimes it can make you look better to marry the mistress you had a child with, but somehow that doesn't seem to apply to this case).

Apparently the wedding is supposed to be this summer and Rielle Hunter wants John Edwards' kids to call her Mommy (good luck with that). But at least if John Edwards' kids with Elizabeth hate him, he's got a chance to start all over again.
