Camelot Revisited
?

A mantle of leadership is an awesome opportunity and responsibility. The Mantle of Presidential Leadership for the United States of America is the most awesome opportunity and responsibility.

It has been suggested, Barack H. Obama, Democratic contender for the 2008 Presidential Election, can be compared to John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy in the capacity to assume that Presidential Mantle. Can he?

John Fitzgerald Kennedy
1917-1963
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts

Major Residences: Massachusetts, Washington, D.C.

Military Experience
* Commander PT-109 during WWII in South Pacific
In a nighttime naval action in the Solomon Islands, Kennedy's PT boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyer. "For extremely heroic conduct...," Kennedy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. He also was decorated with a Purple Heart, and other medals of honor.

Political Experience:
* U.S. House of Representative from Massachusetts, 11th district: six years (1947-1953)
* U.S. Senator from Massachusetts: eight years (1953-1961)
* Runner-up for Democratic Vice Presidential nominee (1956)

Education
* J.F.K. graduated Harvard with a degree in International Affairs
J.F.K.'s thesis, "Appeasement in Munich," was published as Why England Slept and became a best seller. He also assisted his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., in completing the senior Kennedy's memoir as Ambassador.
* J.F.K.'s other educational experiences included: four year's periodic experiences abroad, in France, Italy, Germany, Holland, England, the Soviet Union, the Balkans, and the Middle East before outbreak of WWII (September, 1939), and in South America before America's entrance into WWII (December, 1941).

Other
* The Pulitzer Prize in 1957 for Profiles in Courage

Robert Francis "Bobby" Kennedy
1925-1968
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts

Major Residences: Massachusetts; New York, Florida, Virginia, Washington, D.C.

Military Experience
* Two and one-half years training in the U.S. Naval Reserve
* Less than one year as apprentice seaman on the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.
.
Political Experience
* United States Attorney General, Justice Department, in John F. Kennedy's administration: 3 and one-half years
* Lawyer with Criminal Division, United States Department of Justice (one year), left to manage JFK's successful Senate campaign in Massachusetts
* Chief Counsel for Democrats, including the Senate Labor Rackets Committee (five years); left to manage JFK's successful presidential campaign.

...Appointed following John F. Kennedy's election victory in 1960,
Robert Kennedy's tenure as Attorney General was easily the period
of greatest power for the office; no former United States Attorney
General had enjoyed such clear influence on all areas of policy during
an administration.
Yet to a greater extent, it was President Kennedy
who sought the advice and counsel of his younger brother, and it is to
this extent that Robert Kennedy remained the President's closest
political advisor. Kennedy was relied upon as both the President's
primary source of administrative information and as a general counsel
with whom trust was implicit, given the familial ties of the two men.

Education
* RFK graduated Harvard with a degree in Government
* RFK graduated University of Virginia School of Law, J.D.
* R.F.K.'s other educational experiences included travel and study in London, Rhode Island, Asia, Israel, India, Vietnam, and Japan.

Absolutely, America must reengage Herself for the 21st Century and articulate, understand, and follow Her Vision into the 21st Century. Vision can mean different things to different people (see below).

Ultimately - and, for The United States of America in the 21st Century, essential for 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" - that vision must be real.

Vision given in leadership is only as good as vision understood by those being lead.

Your call.

Thank you for inviting me to take a look here! The way you set up the article is great! I firmly believe that the true measure of a politician is not how he delivers a speech but what happens when he (or she) is forced to operate unscripted. An eye-opener for sure.

Great presentation. It strengthens the fact that I will vote for Mrs. Hilary Clinton

Amid the hubbub of this political season and the importance of considering the credentials for assuming The Presidential Mantle of The United States of America, I OMITTED a significant FACT. In the "Political Experience" section for ROBERT F. KENNEDY, please note and add * U.S. SENATOR from NEW YORK: three years (1965-1968). Truly, I was not trying to deconstruct history (smile)... Michael

Well done - re: experience. Some say they don't want someone learning the job of President in a hands on way. Is anyone prepared for this job? I don't think so. Do they all have advisors suggesting what to do? Of course. If Barack is lacking in an area he'll appoint someone who is strong in that area. Believe me I would love to see a woman in office but Hillary isn't it. I'm a 60's kid. I believe we ended the war in Vietnam. I wish JFK Jr. were alive but he isn't. Barack is and for me he's it.

Thank you for inviting me to your article. I found it to be very important, but I was wondering why you stated so many different places as his primary residence... The place Obama lived in the longest amount of time in his childhoood was Hawaii as he lived there from age 1-9 and again from age 10-18. See "The Not-So-Simple Story of Barack Obama's Youth" by the Chicago Tribune dated Mar. 25, 2007 http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/chi-070325obama-youth-story,1,4006113.story?page=1&ctrack=1&cset=true. Nice job of organizing the info. in a way that is conducive to making easy comparisons!

He asked upon graduating law school what he could do for the country and accepted a $13,000. (I think that is the figure) job doing community service, unlike his rival who went directly into corporate law. He truly did not have a choice in stepping out of the box, with his mother's choices and struggled through his teen years with identity issues. He has definitely become a trail blazer in the status quo dirty politics as usual. He is like all three in being an inspiring and motivational speaker. His best line yet comes from Hopi natives: We are the ones we have been waiting for. Young people's dreams were shattered in 1963 and again in 1968 followed by Bobby's assassination. We the people have been waiting for a courageous person to help give us back the government that we learned about in elementary, junior, senior high school and have never seen in reality. Of, for and by the people. If people see a mantle being passed that is fine by me.

Yikes, people like Christi worry me. She is a great person, but her thinking scares me. The way we are headed there may be no election 2016. GWB put the USA in danger of a united global attack. Hillary is part of the illegal invasion of Iraq, has already voted yes on the Iran Resolution, that might be the straw that unleashes that combined global attack. Oops, will shut up on that comment. I do not know much about Camelot and when it comes to womanizing JFK was a bit Bill Clinton-ish or less idyllic for Jackie. Air Raid Drills were common practice and a lot of other little problems with society. The good thing was those coming of age during Kennedy's years "asked not what our country could do for us but asked what we could do for our country" we followed Bobby in not going where the path led but leaving footprints for others to follow. The influence of both Kennedy brothers and Martin Luther King Jr's on Obama is seen in his actions.
