From Stage to Movies to TV Series

John Forsythe has died at age 92 from complications of pneumonia. Forsythe had battled cancer for the last year. He was a handsome man with striking gray hair and tanned face. John was a heartthrob to many a female fan.

The famous actor was born John Lincoln Freund on Jan. 29, 1918, in Penn's Grove, N.J. He went to college at the University of Northern Carolina. One of his first jobs was to announce for the Brooklyn Dodgers. When John decided to go into acting, he changed his name to John Forsythe. Why? He said that people were mispronouncing his original name too much. The Forsythe name came from his mother's family.

Cast in Moss Hart's Air Force show "Winged Victory," Forsythe became a founding member of the Actors Studio. On to stage and TV plays John Forsythe garnered a Pulitzer Prize for "Teahouse of the August Moon. Forsythe said " It gave me a sense of worth as an actor.

John Forsythe moved on to some movies..the Glass Web, Captive City and one of my favorites, Escape from Fort Bravo. He also was in a movie that was not only odd for John Forsythe, but also odd for Alfred Hitchcock. It was called "the Trouble with Harry". It's about a dead body that keeps showing up and disappearing again. I was taken back by the movie the first time I watched..now I can't wait until the next time I see it.

Some of John Forsythe's later movies included "In Cold Blood", Topaz (another one of Hitchcock's) Madame X with Lana Turner and "And Justice for all.

John Forsythe had a voice that was smooth as butter. And he cashed in on that voice during the Charlie's Angels TV show. It was said that he had a $5 million dollar contract for that gig. Whatever he was paid, his voice was recognized in almost every American household. He went on to narrate the World of Survival. This fit Forsythe as he was said to be a devoted environmentalist.

Forsythe was probably best known and recognized for the Dynasty and Charlie's Angels TV series that he did. He was an extremely handsome man that stayed handsome through the ages. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, a son and 2 daughters.

Thanks for that soothing voice and great smile. Rest in peace John Forsythe.

Boy, aren't we losing a lot of Hollywood icons this year!? Yes, his voice had somethin special. It was both soothing and calming that even the angels must have loved...and I'm not talking Charlies either!? LOL :-)
