John Frieda Collection Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner

My Experience Using John Frieda's Root Awakening Shampoo and Conditioner

Elizabeth V. Miller
It's been almost a month since I received free samples of John Frieda Collection Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner, but I've been so forgetful and lazy that I didn't even open the containers until today. Shame on me! But now that I've tried them, I'd love to share my thoughts. Obviously you can't tell everything about a shampoo and conditioner from using them once, but you can gather a lot.

John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo

The John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo is intended to improve the health of your hair with natural eucalyptus. The packaging claims that natural eucalyptus hydrates, nourishes, and stimulates. In order to agree with or argue against that, repeated use would be required. It's hard to imagine the Strength Restoring Shampoo will really "awaken 3x healthier hair," but I'm not even going to fight that. Maybe it's true.

I'll probably never find out, though, because I learned something about myself today. Apparently, I can't stand the smell of eucalyptus. As I was working the shampoo in my hair, I wanted to literally stop midway and wash it out. If I hadn't been intending to review the product, I really may have. The shampoo's scent is extremely strong. If you love eucalyptus, in its fullest glory, you're probably going to be in heaven using this product.

Even forgetting about the smell, I didn't love the shampoo itself. It had a fairly thin consistency, and it didn't feel that powerful cleansing. But, like the smell, that's not inherently negative. If you're looking for something really gentle, you might like it. My hair is on the oilier side of the spectrum, so personally, I'm not going to buy this shampoo in the foreseeable future.

John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Conditioner

Compared to the shampoo, I was actually really pleased with the John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Conditioner. It almost reminded me of some of those divine conditioners you get with purchasing hair dye. The strong eucalyptus scent would still be a huge deterrent for me, but I would be much more inclined to purchase the Root Awakening Conditioner than the Frieda Shampoo.

The conditioner was very thick, and I mean that in the best way possible. With one use, I could feel the hydration and restoration. Because I do have oily hair, I usually focus my conditioning efforts on the bottom half. So granted, I don't use all that much conditioner, but the sample still went very far. I think a bottle of the John Frieda conditioner really would last you a while compared to other brands.

John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Conclusions

Moment of truth: the eucalyptus smell is not going to work for me. I won't be buying these products. But, besides the eucalyptus factor, I really did like the Root Awakening Conditioner. I probably will look into trying another conditioner from the John Frieda Collection. I'd be less interested in trying a John Frieda shampoo again, but I'd still be willing to sample something if a convenient opportunity arose.

  • The John Frieda Root Awakening Collection was just okay for me.
  • If you're in the market for a gentle eucalyptus shampoo, here it is!
  • The conditioner was good, but if you don't love eucalyptus, I'd say don't even bother.
John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner strongly smell like their prized ingredient: natural eucalyptus.
