John Gardner: An Interview, Pt 1 - Reporter Rekha Muddaraj Talks to Killer

Any journalist worth their penmanship wants a scoop. Any news outlet that says they don't want to stand out in the May sweeps is lying. And CBS Channel 8 can now boast both: a John Gardner scoop and ratings. But at what cost to Chelsea King's family and that of Amber Dubois?

John Gardner Interview Exclusive at CBS

Rekha Muddaraj, the reporter at CBS who spoke with John Gardner via phone from his jail cell, has earned the nickname 'Scoop'. As a journalist it is the 'be all, end all' to walk away with a scoop like she got today. And her news agency, CBS' Channel 8, is probably lauding her for making their May sweeps starting position higher than a Donald Trump building. And while I don't want to take away from their moment in the spotlight--they earned it--I have to ask: at what cost did this John Gardner interview take place?

Chelsea King's Family and Amber Dubois' Family Pay the Price

The Kings, Brent and Kelly and their son, as well as Maurice Dubois and Carrie McGonigle are paying a price tonight for CBS' scoop. They are having to have their lives interrupted yet again by a killer who wasn't satisfied to take their daughters' lives; John Gardner wants to disrupt the lives of the Kings and Mr. Dubois and Ms. McGonigle too. Tonight, John Gardner tried to slay the remaining King and Dubois families with words.

John Gardner Has Motive For Talking: Reliving His Crimes

If you think John Gardner just got on the phone out of the goodness of his guilty-laden heart, you don't know sexual offenders like I do. John Gardner has an agenda. He shared some of it with listeners and readers of CBS' interview of the sexual offender. John told Rekha Muddaraj that he wouldn't tell her about what he did to Chelsea King or Amber Dubois; but he would tell their families.

Sure John will. That's what sick sexual predators do--relive the murders and rapes they commit. And they need to feed off of the victims' families sometimes to do that. So talking to the Kings or Amber Dubois' family will make John Gardner's day.

The Other Motives of John Gardner and His Interview

But John Gardner has another motive or two as well. For one, John wants the public to get in an uproar--as well as the press--about supposed activities of the law enforcement and prosecuting agencies who now hold the keys to his future in their hands. John Gardner is mad ladies and gentlemen. He is ticked off royally that he was 'scooped' so to speak by law enforcement and the DA's office.

And John Gardner wants to stick it to them. Don't believe for one minute he has guilt over his victims, over their families' pain, or over taxpayers or press being supposedly 'deceived' during the investigation. He doesn't. But he wants you to think that.

Why John Gardner's Interview Was a Mistake

I don't trust a thief to guard my valuables. I don't trust a banker to save me money. And I certainly wouldn't trust a criminal to tell me the truth about anything. I do trust the fine men and women in law enforcement circles who go out every day and try to help victims of crimes.

And I do trust the prosecuting attorneys in the DA's offices to fight for me against those who might attempt to victimize me. And you should too. John Gardner is attempting to make his incarceration go away by all the smoke and mirror tricks he is using on the public today. He wants the criminal justice system to be questioned. He wants their actions to be called into questioned. He wants free again so he can come visit your daughters next.

John Gardner's interview with CBS was illuminating in that it merely shows that John Gardner isn't sorry. He isn't remorseful. But he is very mad--at the people who put him behind bars. And don't you ever forget it.
