John Goodman: Dropping 100lbs and Feeling Great!

John Goodman has had a great career over the years, but something has always loomed over him, his obesity. Now after 100lbs being gone, Goodman says he's ready to lead an active life.

Goodman has always been known for being a bigger man, but a great actor none-the-less. Having parts in movies and TV shows such as Roseanne, The Big Lebowski, The Blues Brothers 2000, and many others. He has still put his creative juices to use even with the extra pounds weighing him down.

"It may be sappy, but it was a waste." The actor told PEOPLE magazine about being a couch potato. Sitting around and wasting all of that creative energy on thinking about what you will be having to eat next is no way to live life.

Goodman has since hired a personal trainer, cut all sugars out of his diet, started exercising 6 times a week, and three years ago he cut drinking out of his life. John Goodman isn't the only actor that has lost a lot of weight. After getting fed up with his weight, new Price is Right host Drew Carey dropped around 80 pounds by cutting out carbs and working out 5 to 6 times a week. On top of that, he also reversed type II diabetes.

John Goodman may not have had diabetes, but losing over 100 pounds has to make the actor feel much better. Not only does his body have that much less to work with, but it has raised the actor's self esteem, and pushed him to put those creative juices he told PEOPLE about, to work on better things aside from eating.

At 58, Goodman is looking better then he has in years, and not only that, but with his energy levels rising, will we see more acting opportunities open up for this disciplined man?

Aside from the weight loss, let's put this in one more perspective: Is THIS the type of role model our youth needs to look for with this era of obesity in America? John Goodman and Drew Carey both could be put in this role. Instead of using Kim Kardashian as a scapegoat to get into porn, or Courtney Love as a muse to do drugs and throw your life away; how about we have a good role model for our children? Someone who promotes activity in life, who shows that we don't have to drown our emotions in food, or indulge our weaknesses in any other type of bad activity.

These types of actors show that we don't need to rely on alcohol, that we shouldn't sit on the couch or computer chair for hours every day accumulating more weight, and lowering our own self-esteem. John Goodman is more agile, and remembering how heavy he was is keeping him from going back to the couch potato life.

We should admire this man for the mentality and effort he has put into dropping so much weight. After 58 years, should we look at our obese children and consider it a lost cause; or should we simply realize that it is never too late to leave your bad habits behind?
