John G's is so called because the chap that opened the restaurant was called and is called John Giragos. Giragos chose a scenic location for his restaurant on the front of the public beach at Lake Worth, Florida. The beauty of this is that if you do have to stand in line you have a great view.
John G's has served breakfast and lunch every day since opening its doors and is still a family affair. Keith and Jay Giragos are the chef managers and the dining room is managed extremely efficiently by Wendy Giragos Yarborough.
But what is so special about this particular restaurant that doesn't even serve dinner that people stand in line for breakfast and lunch? Well, I can answer that right here and now.
After standing in line for 30 minutes I really was beginning to doubt my sanity. The time factor had nothing to do with it it was the amount of people that were waiting. The staff at the restaurant kept that line going so there was no room for complaint.
I eventually was given a table and oh my. The place was crowed to the hilt and noisy. Normally I would not have enjoyed this atmosphere but here at John G's it just seemed right.
Everybody was friendly and good natured in shifting chairs so that the people on the next table had some room. The noise was of people chattering, laughing and from the clatter of the kitchen. Amazingly enough it was really relaxing.
The restaurant itself is decorated with an old world charm, which adds to its delights, and the staff were inviting, warm and friendly.
At this point I am happy to brag that the original John G was sat at the next table enjoying lunch with a friend. I had heard so much of this man and his achievements that is was great to actually see him in the flesh.
Breakfast is served Monday- Saturday 7.00am til 11.30 am and until noon on Sundays and is extensive. You can choose from one of John G;s original French toasts to croissants to eggs and bacon and on goes the list. All reasonably priced too. A really hearty start to any day.
Lunch is served Monday to Saturday 11.15am til 3.00pm and from 12 noon on Sundays. Again the choice is extensive. There are five delicious starters to choose from followed by Deep Sea Favorites, or a burger of one sort or another, frankfurter dishes, John G's famous fruit combos, John G's pasta, a stacked sandwich or a salad.
Should you be dining on a Friday you will be able to savor a cup of Seafood Bisque. Which was the day that I chose to visit. The Seafood Bisque which is only offered on a Friday was just mouthwateringly tantalizing and the fish and chips that followed were probably some of the best I have eaten (and I am British). My only complaint, there was far too much which meant I had to go and have a lay on the beach afterwards until my stomach became a little more comfy to move around. It was all too delicious so leaving some on the plate was not an option.....
When dining at John G's please bear in mind that they do NOT accept credit cards.
