Ferris Bueller's Day Off Director Passes Away

John Hughes director of such movies as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club dies at the age of 59 from a heart attack while taking a morning walk. While the whole story of his death hasn't come to life, that is the report at this time from TMZ.com.

While Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles aren't his only noted films from the 80's, they are some of the most popular from that decade. He also directed Weird Science, National Lampoon's Vacation, National Lampoon;s Christmas Vacation, Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and Curly Sue.

Many of his films I have watched. My favorite John Hughes movies are The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone. I try to watch these movies every time they are on television. Don't be surprised if you see many of his more popular movies come to life on AMC and TCM over the next few years. This is just a hunch I have due to the popularity of many of his films.

There are far more films he directed than I listed here. John Candy, who passed away after the making of Wagons East, made the most appearances in his movies. Not only did he direct and produce many of these, movies he wrote some of them. He wrote as many movie screenplays as he directed and produced together.

I feel there are some true to life stories and lessons we can learn from his movies. His National Lampoon Vacation movies often remind me of horror stories I have heard others tell. Well, maybe horror is a strong word to use, but these movies often depict what can go wrong on a family vacation. While the scenarios may not be funny at the time they happen to us, they are laughable later in life.

The same goes for Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink. These John Hughes films were geared towards teenagers of the decade, some points held true even for me going to high school in the late 70's and early 80's. I found myself thinking back to my high school days watching these movies.

John Hughes will join some of the greats that have passed away this year. May he live long in our memories through his movies.
