John Kerry Goes to Suffolk Downs

And they're off. Obama breaks from the gate with Hillary and Edwards trailing early at the first turn. Hillary is coming on and takes a slight lead. We have a few celebrities in the stands today including John Kerry here at Suffolk Downs, Boston's premiere race track. To skip to the results of that race, it turns out Kerry bet on Obama and before the finish line Hillary and Edwards collided but only Edwards went down. There was a photo finish for second, so hold all tickets.

Personally I think Senator Kerry should have covered a few more entries in the race with his betting money in his bid to catch Al Gore in the 'I used to be relevant to the party' Stakes. Kerry who is apparently not up to starting out on a noble quest to solve one of the world's problems, went for this idea. Can you blame him? The best one, global warming, was already taken by Al.

I think Lieberman received and deserved a lot of sympathy in the 2006 Connecticut primary when Kerry, at the time still relevant to the party, declined to endorse him. I don't think Hillary will garner as much sympathy as Joe did, unless of course she cries for herself again.

In a July 2006 Boston Globe article by Rick Klein about Kerry and the Connecticut primary, it was claimed by one of Kerry's key people that the Senator generally does not get involved in primaries. Apparently unless he wants to or in other words, the Senator was against getting involved in primaries before he was for it.

Will this ultimately hurt Hillary? Iowa hurt her then by last Tuesday it didn't. Her husband hurt her, then he didn't, then he did etc. When it comes to her husband it just depends on which political commentator your listening to and the day of the week.

The real sympathy has to go to John Edwards. Unless all those tattered and fading bumper stickers still left on cars contain a typo, those two guys used to have something special together. The only alternative left for Edwards is to form a support group starting with him and Joe Lieberman as charter members. Better yet, Edwards and Lieberman in 2012, the candidates for those of us who have ever been dumped. That's a ticket I could relate to, how about you?
