John Kerry's October Surprise

Was John Kerry Insulting the Military or the President?

Donna H. Davey
The headlines once again reveal bias.

Yahoo wrote, "Kerry apologizes for botched joke," with no mention of what it was about.

Others completely ignored the story or put forth a vague headline, as they usually do when Democrats are involved in anything that could be perceived as negative. Would a Republican be treated (or rather protected) in a comparable approach? I think not, especially since the center for media affairs (non-partisan) recently completed a study showing that in the last seven weeks, 77% of news coverage positively favored Democrats while a scant 12% were upbeat towards Republicans; with that kind of unfair coverage, it's amazing that some Americans can think for themselves and form an opinion without the predisposed assistance of the MSM.

In fact, I first heard about John Kerry's 'botched joke' while perusing Free Republic, even though yahoo news is my default homepage and I check it often.

What transpired is that while at a political rally for California Democrat Phil Angelides, John Kerry told the Pasadena City College crowd this tasteful gem:

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

I think it's pretty obvious who he is referring to, and it doesn't come across as President Bush. But, since the spinning has commenced, let's play along. If John Kerry was referring to President Bush's education, that's just preposterous considering the embarrassment John Kerry went through when it was revealed that President Bush received better grades than Kerry did while at Yale, and not only that, but the President went on to Harvard where he earned an MBA. Furthermore, when both men submitted to their military intelligence tests, President Bush was shown to have a higher I.Q. than John Kerry. So, with those facts out there for public consumption, I have little faith that John Kerry would revisit that source of discomfiture.

However, the facts show that John Kerry has a long record of making contemptible comments about the military. Remember his patriotic comment about soldiers terrorizing women and children in Iraq? Instead of offering words of support and encouragement, John Kerry chose to disparage them, but that's what he does best.

The bottom line is that if John Kerry was referring to members of the military than his words were stone cold disgusting and it's been more than apparent through his own words and 'testimonies' before Congress that John Kerry reveals his true feelings of disdain towards the military and his recent shameful remarks should be an affront to anyone who values freedom and the men and women who sacrificed their lives to ensure that freedom.

In closing, I think this quote by Tommy Dale sums it up nicely,

The real truth is, get a good education or you'll end up having to marry into money, like John Kerry.

  • Service demographics offer snapshot of force
  • Was it clear to whom John Kerry was referring?
  • We can't read his mind, but we can judge his track record.
  • The majority of Americans believe he was referring to soldiers.
98 percent of all enlisted recruits who enter the military have an education level of high school or greater, compared to the national average of 75 percent.

Enjoyed reading this Donna. It so adequately described how INadequate John Kerry is. I think most of us took his comments to reflect on those serving in the military. Darndest thing is, when I heard that comment he made, I swear to God it wasn't the first time he said it! A number of months ago I think he had said the very same thing. The man does not learn!

During the last presidential campaign I recall John Kerry saying that serving in the National Guard is not like serving in the military. I have tried but I cannot find those comments archived anywhere. I have had noting but contempt for him ever since I heard him say that.

Hi Donnna, we do have articles with the same title, looks like you beat me to it! I think our articles sort of compliment the other, don't you think?

Excellent article. Donna, you have have hit the nail on the head here. This man reeks of arrogance, and as hard as he tries, he cannot hide his disdain for our men and women in the military. Listening to the crap that comes of Kerry's mouth makes it much easier to understand why the Democrats have a donkey as their official party symbol. Keep up the good work!

Great job Donna. Thanks this is refreshing commentary. The TRUTH ladies and gentleman is that even the apology was arogant and condesending to ALL Americans. In affect, the ill-informed Senator (poor Massachussets - Kerry and Uncle Teddy) says'Sorry- you misunderstood my comments- you are all too stupid to see that I was making a joke.' What a leader! Lets support the troops the President and defeat the terrorists not play into their hands.

That's what you thought? HAHAHA, nice play. You got me good.

If calling out the mistakes of an awful president on the evening news is a "liberal bias," then so be it. Truth is truth.

  • JK11/2/2006

Just watch fox news...they'll slant everything toward the republicans.

  • Rick11/2/2006

So, was the media supposed to put the entire quote in the headline? Is that what it takes? You're searching for gold in a toxic wasteland, Donna.
