John Legend Evolver Early Album Review

John Legend Delivers on His Latest Effort

The Reviewer
It has been two years since John Legend's platinum second album Once Again. Now John Legend is back with his third studio album Evolver. Instead of just sitting behind the piano, Evolver finds John Legend experimenting with different genres and styles. Will Evolver be a commercial success?

The first single off of Evolver is Green Light featuring Andre 3000 from Outkast. The song is completely different than what you expect from John Legend. The track is a solid mid-to-up-tempo track. The song features a strong verse from Andre 3000 and is all around very well done.

The second single is If You're Out There. The song has been featured in Barack Obama campaign stops. The song is an extremely positive track and is extremely necessary song in these trying times.

Kanye West teams up with John Legend on the Pharrell Williams produced It's Over. The song is probably the catchiest track on the album. The up-tempo retro vibe is one of the furthest things you would expect from John Legend yet he delivers on the track. Kanye West delivers a strong verse which just adds to the commercial appeal.

Quickly features R&B singer Brandy. The song features a very distinctive beat which may not be a positive. Brandy's voice sounds nice blending with John Legend's however the song just does not stand out.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Good Morning. The song has a completely retro vibe to it. The song is one of the mellower tracks on the album and is just extremely well done. The album also starts off with Good Morning Intro which is insanely well done and starts the album off correctly.

This Time is more vintage John Legend. The track is a strong piano driven ballad which captures the magic of previous John Legend power ballads.

Estelle joins John Legend on No Other Love. The reggae vibe of the track is completely unexpected and is surprisingly well done.

Take Me Away is yet another standout track on the album. The song has interesting lyrics along with a unique melody which is extremely catchy.

Cross The Line is yet another very strong track. The song features drums that you would not expect to hear on a John Legend track.

Overall Evolver offers a little something for everyone. The album features a wide variety of musical genres which work harmoniously. Overall Evolver gets 8.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of John Legend make sure you pick up Evolver when it is available in stores on October 28th.
