"Who is John Mayer?"
He looked familiar, and after a while I finally realized that this was the same guy who paired up with Dave Chappelle on his show (Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central) to do a skit on the differences between blacks, whites, and latinos. See the skit here.
How ironic that John Mayer is now embroiled in a controversy regarding his comments about the differences between blacks and whites in a recent Playboy interview. He spoke of having an "N-word pass" from his black friends. He also made a very derogatory comment regarding black women as a whole. The comments were:
"Someone asked me the other day, "What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?" And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a n*gger pass."
And when asked about black women:
"I don't think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a f*ckin' David Duke cock. I'm going to start dating separately from my dick."
Whoa Nelly. Talk about someone who seems to be asking for enemies. It goes without saying that N-word comment is completely unacceptable-that word will never be "safe" or "cool" to say for anyone.
On the second comment, he has his right to his preferences-surely there are black women who have the same opinions regarding Mayer and white men. But the choice of words were simply not.... choice.
As a double shot of irony, Dave Chappelle is famous for his skit called "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong." In this skit random people say what's on their mind in various situations, and then experience the consequences rather quickly.
Well, it seems that this is exactly what is happening to John Mayer right now. People of all races are coming out against him. Fellow celebrities are tweeting their dismay regarding his unwise words. There are about 40 million black people in the United States-sorry dude, you just can't get away with saying things like that in the media without being put into the same class as a KKK member.
The realization of the stupidity of his comments weighed so heavy on him that he was videotaped crying at a recent concert.
What's that saying? You can forgive, but it's almost impossible to forget. You can't get the toothpaste back into the tube. After that John Mayer Playboy interview I would not be surprised if Mayer decides to go off to the same place Kanye West visited after last year's MTV awards for a while.
