John Mayer: Top 10 Songs by the Singer/Songwriter

Vonda Menard
Recently John Mayer has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The singer songwriter was heavily criticized for his interview, in Playgirl magazine. Maybe Mayer should let his music speak for him, it does a much better job. Here is my top ten favorite John Mayer songs.

10. Who Says. Fun song, with playful lyrics. The first song of the encore set at the concert, was a perfect way to begin the end of an amazing night.

9. Gravity. Typical Mayer song, good lyrics, and good guitar play. Was last song in the regular set at the concert. I doubt anyone in the arena wanted the concert to end, I know I didn't.

8. Why Georgia Why. Just a cool song about living life, makes you sing along. Though I didn't know all the lyrics, I did my best to sing along with the crowd at the concert.

7. Perfectly Lonely. Song seems to signify where Mayer is in his much publicized dating life. Good song about living without a love of your own. Didn't know the song until I heard it played at the concert.

6. Heartbreak Warfare. It seems Mayer would have the experience to write a song like this, with the much publicized relationships he's had. Very true song for all of us who've been in relationships that don't work out. Performed this song at the concert, to the delight of the arena.

5. Friends, Lovers, or Nothing. Nice slow song with a simplified message, that there are only three ways someone can be in your life. I don't believe that, but this is still a good song. Great way to end the show. Last song performed at the concert.

4. Waiting for the World to Change. This song could be the anthem for the young adults of the world. We all sang along at the concert, pumped up by the energy, and the message of the song.

3. Dreaming With a Broken Heart. What an accurately touching song about heartache. Anyone who's ever loved someone, who they can't have, will appreciate this song of longing. Unfortunately this song wasn't song at the concert.

2. Daughters. This song is personal to me, because I didn't have a great relationship with my father. This song speaks to me and makes me realize I am who I am today, partially as a result of my relationship with my father. It's impressive Mayer was able to sing about the emotions of a woman so honestly. I was disappointed this wasn't played at the concert.

1. Say. This song was written by Mayer for the movie, Bucket List. At the concert Mayer explained how he was contacted to write a song for the film, and he delivered the brilliant Say. As is the case with John Mayer songs, the lyrics in this song are beautiful as is the message. We should all say what we mean to say, before it's too late.

  • John Mayer is a brilliant singer/songwriter/guitar player.
  • He's able to say eloquently in songs, what he fails to convey in normal speech.
  • It's unfortunate Mayer's personal life sometimes overshadows his singing career.
