John Paul Pet Cleanse Oatmeal Shampoo

We have a seven year old Silky Terrier, and if you aren't familiar with the breed, they are half Australian Terrier and half Yorkshire Terrier (the dogs with the long fur and top knots on their heads).

Because of her long silky fur, she gets bathed more often than any breed of dog I've ever owned. I believe frequent bathing, for pets, can lead to dry skin. I've yet to see a dandruff shampoo for pets, but I did find a good oatmeal shampoo.

This shampoo is made by John Paul Pet, John Paul being the co-founder of the famous Paul Mitchell line of hair care products found in beauty salons everywhere.

Our local pet specialty store started carrying this line of pet care products, and I have tried seven different products in the line, and I am in love with all of them!

Description

This pet shampoo comes in a white bottle, and looks amazingly similar to the salon products I buy myself. The cap is an easy flip off, snap back on.

I expected an oatmeal shampoo to look much different than this one does. Rather than being white as I suspected, it is as clear as water. It also smells very strongly of almond oil.

The oatmeal shampoo is JPPets sensitive skin formula, and the package says that it is specially formulated to help relieve skin irritations, promote healing, and moisturize dry, itchy skin with pure oatmealm aloe vera gel and sweet almond oil.

Ingredients

Water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamide DEA, cocamidopropyl betaine, sweet almond oil, hydrolyzed whole oats, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, citric acid, methylchloroisothiazolineone, methlisothiazolinone, tetrasodium edta, propylene glycol, fragrance (parfum), yellow 5.

Thoughts

Since my dog can't tell me if her skin is itchy or not, I take precautionary measures and bathe her with this oatmeal shampoo periodically. The oatmeal is good for healing and moisturizes dry itchy skin.

The shampoo is very thick and doesn't lather up as much as other dog shampoo's I have used, but it does an adequate job. I am sure to add more water to her fur while I am massaging the shampoo into her fur, and this helps build a better lather.

I was very happy with the ease of which this shampoo rinsed out of my Silky's long hair, it didn't take long at all and left her fur (or hair as some people say), very clean feeling. When she dries completely, her fur looks full and healthy.

The almond oil is a scent that is super strong in this product, and my dog smelled like almond oil for a day or two before this wore off. If you don't like this smell, this shampoo might not be for you. The smell actually reminds me of amaretto!

John Paul products are cruelty free, and they test on humans first. They support the ethical and humane treatment of all animals and a portion of their profits benefit these causes.

The 16 ounce bottle retails for $12.00.
