John Travolta Outed by Good Friend Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher, the Star Wars princess that boys of my age fantasized about before we even knew what we were fantasizing about, threw another log on the fire...uh, straw on the camel's back, I mean... today concerning the widespread speculation concerning John Travolta's gay behavior.

For a long time, John Travolta, who, like Fisher, starred in a major movie in the late 1970's, has been rumored to be gay. Despite the fact that Travolta is married to sexy former model Kelly Preston, and despite the fact that he and Preston recently had another baby, rumors concerning his sexuality have persisted for years.

In 2006, the National Enquirer published a picture of Travolta kissing a then unidentified man as he boarded a plane. Travolta's camp's position was that despite the apparent nature of what was going on in the photograph, it meant nothing. Travolta, they said, kissed everybody, man or woman, this way.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that a book about Travolta's behavior in gay spas in Los Angeles was being published. Author Robert Randolph wrote a book titled, "You'll Never Spa in this Town Again", (the title of which was a takeoff on the 1996 Hollywood prostitute authored book "You'll Never Make Love in this Town Again" ).

In his book, Randolph gives what he claims is an inside account of the gay sex fueled proclivities of some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Travolta.

As part of his promotional effort, Randolph spoke with the website Gawker. He gave graphic details of what he says was part of Travolta's behavior. In turn, Travolta has threatened to sue Gawker and force it to take Randolph's testimony down.

Until this point, the 'John Travolta is gay rumors' have been mostly confined to idle chatter and online celebrity gossip sites. Now, however, one of Travolta's longtime friends, Carrie Fisher, is basically confirming the rumors that Travolta is gay.

Fisher, in an interview with gay magazine The Advocate, was asked for her opinion on Travolta's lawsuit against Gawker. Fisher replied, "Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don't care. Look, I'm sorry that he's uncomfortable with it, and that's all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be."

With attitudes towards gays and lesbians becoming ever more friendly, and with the speculation (some would say evidence) mounting that Travolta is indeed gay, it will be interesting to see in the upcoming months or years whether Carrie Fisher's 'outing' of John Travolta will prompt the actor himself to come out of the closet.

It is not a big deal that he is gay. It is a big deal that he has risen in the Church of Scientology while gay. Dianetics calls gay people physically ill and dangerous. Not what the CofS wants in its high profile members.
