Johnnie's Pastrami Restaurant is one of those small out-of-the way places that I love to seek out during my travels. They always seem to have the absolute best food on the planet. This held true with Johnnie's, no doubt about it. It is a diner kind of place, with red & white checked plastic cloths on the tables. We sat outside on the patio since it was such a nice spring day.
Our waitress was very friendly in a down-home sort of way. That's my favorite kind. She took our order and left a thingy of some damned good pickles. I got my standard Hot Pastrami on a hoagie type bun with mustard only; my son took the waitress' suggestion and added cheese to his.
When they arrived, the smell was almost enough to send me into a food orgasm. After the first bite, I wanted to transport this divine little eatery directly to my village in Sweden so I could eat there all the time. Oh my gawd was that good stuff! This sandwich was not only fantastic, it was huge. So big, in fact, that we both ate half, and saved our other halves for later.
Now, one thing you need to know about me is I am sooo not a health food freak. You can find pastrami sandwiches all over the US of A, but it is that pressed, fatless, tasteless health food crap. That is absolutely not what you will get at Johnnie's Pastrami Restaurant. Oh no dear reader... what you get here is the real deal. Full flavor, fat and all. Heaven on a roll, I tell you! Heart problems be damned. I enjoy life, and that includes full-flavored foods. This baby here is worth dying over.
You can get corned beef sandwiches, burgers, and chili dogs at Johnnie's... but I'm telling you right now you must get the pastrami. It is worth every red cent of that 10 bucks, and more. We got onion rings to go with our and those were just every bit as good. The real thing here, not that frozen stuff.
Johnnie's is located at 401 Sepulveda Blvd in Culver City. Start slowing down between Washington Blvd & Washington Place. It is on the west side of the street and just as cute as could be. If you are bringing in a big group, or want to order take-home, you call them at (301) 397-6654.
Now, Johnnie's Pastrami Restaurant is a cash-only place. However, there is a small ATM just out back of the patio near the parking area so no worries if you only have plastic with you. Parking is free here, which is a rarity around Los Angeles, let me tell ya.
I cannot recommend Johnnie's highly enough. If you are a pastrami freak like me, then this is your best bet in the Los Angeles area. Maybe I'll ask if they can freeze and ship abroad... I sure do want one of those delicious sandwiches now!

Post a CommentI'm in! I love Pastrami!
Its almost dinner time and you have me salivating. I don't enjoy the non fat health food either, especially when eating out, I want the real deal. I'll have to check this place out if ever in CA.
mmmm, now I'm hungry but the only places in Houston you can get good pastrami and corned beef that I know of are Randall's and Jason's.
Sounds good.
Love Pastrami too & this place sounds like one I would love!!!!
Unfortunately, the tablecloths were blue, not red & white. Not sure why I remembered them the wrong color. Wish I had the ability to edit this.
Sounds wonderful.
I love pastrami. Helpful that you mentioned that Johnnie's is cash only but that there's an ATM nearby.
Yum
Beofre making the switch over to vegetarianism, hot pastrami was one of my favorite foods... the good stuff could only be had in three places I have found... New York, Boston and yes, L.A.!
