Johnny Depp as the Riddler in Batman ?

This is not written in stone, in fact is really falls more into the catagory of rumor. In fact, those in charge behind the scenes have said there is no truth to the claim that he is considered the actor to portray the Riddler, but for one I think they should take this rumor into serious consideration.

Whether or not Johnny Depp is considered for the role, the rumors are fun to consider. If you really think about Johnny Depp and his acting style, he has expressions that border over acting and his expressions are almost surrealistic, what more could you ask for in a character like the Riddler. there are few actors with wide expressionism in their face, people like Johnny Depp and Jim Carrey have an ability to stretch the emotional expression in their face. I think about Jim Carrey in The Grinch and how much he could twist and contort his face, I could not imagine another actor being able to portray that character the way he did.

This brings me to Johnny Depp and some of his previous roles. Pirates of the Caribbean was probably not his best suited role however it was a fun film and his expressionism added a lot to the lightness of his character. For example the movies Edward Scissorhands and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory really play on his talents and abilities. While Johnny Depp is perhaps on the fringe of what we would normally accept as traditional acting, he has a way of wearing off on you especially once you've seen him in a few roles.

Even though it appears to be up in the air at this point, and there is no selected actor for the role for which this rumor apparently came from Michael Caine, I personally think he would be an ideal choice for the role. Having watched the Batman TV series so many years ago and remembering all the characters, I can easily see Johnny Depp being the riddler. I just think he can bring the right kind of expression and charisma to the character and will only add to the dimension of the new Batman movie.
