The founders of Johnny Rockets wanted to give everyone a place to sit and relax while you enjoy the items on their menu. The food is simple, very good, and the environment is lots of fun. It is a great place for kids but I personally enjoyed the 50's feel of the place. The décor is reminiscent of a 50's soda shop. You can sit up at the counter and watch while your food and drink is prepared, or sit in the food court. The only draw back here is that there is not a lot of counter space. There are less than 2 dozen stools, but several booths along the wall for you to sit and enjoy...as well as the food court seating. The neon and chrome take you back to the "good old days". They have "50's" juke boxes mounted on the wall at the tables and on the counters that the kids thought were really cool; and they still only cost a nickel to play, but it only plays 50's music. Great for me, drove the kids nuts!
There is no waiting at this Minneapolis restaurant, and reservations are not necessary; it is a walk in while visiting the Mall of America, come as you are kind of place. You can park your shopping cart right outside and still be able to keep a close watch on your items.
The service was fairly quick, we did not experience a long wait for seating or to order. When the order was placed it took less than fifteen minutes to serve us. The food servers were very pleasant and made our visit wonderful.
The menu is a simple one, burgers, fries and shakes to suit everyone. They also serve the most fabulous onion rings you will ever eat! The shakes are served in "50's" chilled mugs and topped with whipped cream and a cherry! I was torn between the milk shakes and the root beer floats. Both were fabulous; full of flavor and quite large. They serve a mean Apple Pie topped with creamy vanilla ice cream that was very yummy. The burgers are priced a little higher here, but you are paying a fair price for good food in a pretty neat place, so it's not too bad. The food tastes excellent, not like the typical fast food.
They have a great kids menu that offers everything a kids loves; burgers, fries, grilled cheese, even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! They have a great kids club and you can make arrangements for kid's birthdays as well. Johnny Rockets is a great Minneapolis restaurant choice while visiting the Mall of America.
