I've been going every since the first year I passed up the chance to go. It truly is a festival of not just Jazz. The streets are blocked off and the vendors come out to sell their work and their demonstrations. The local businesses have sales and events surrounding the events of the festival. And the people walk from stage to stage to see the performances of the chosen musical artists. Dexter Wansel and the Ohio Players are among the long list of past performers.
A returning favorite of the festival is the multi-crossover group War. Also scheduled to perform are Teena Marie, The Whispers, and The Average White Band just to name a few. This year more stages and venues have been added. Every year this event grows larger and larger.
Like a Phoenix the community of West Oak Lane has built itself up and people from all over the country come to this event. Many visitors to this event use this weekend as a chance to visit their Philadelphia relatives while relaxing to the music this festival has to offer.
I can't wait to see what kind of art, music, and other visual media this year's festival will bring.
