However, now that the makeup of the conventional family has changed, a bride's responsibilities have changed with it. If there is no father of the bride present to give a speech or toast his daughter and new son in law, then the bride can give a speech to fill that void.
What does a bride say when she gives her speech? Well, most anything she wants to! Keep in mind that a little humor can go a long way in entertaining the guests and calming the jittery nerves of the wedding party.
A bride can add a short quote to her speech to liven it up. Here are a few suggestions:
1. "The appropriate age for marriage is around eighteen for girls and thirty-seven for men."
- -Aristotle.
2. "Marriage is the alliance of two people, one of whom never remembers birthdays and the other who never forgets them." - -Ogden Nash.
3. "I'd much rather be a woman than a man. Women can cry, they can wear cute clothes, and they are the first to be rescued off of sinking ships." - -Gilda Radner
4. "A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married." - -H.L. Mencken
5. "The more you invest in a marriage, the more valuable it becomes." - - Amy Grant
Or, she can even use part of a song to express her feelings. Here are some song examples:
1. "...You were always there for me
The tender wind that carried me
A light in the dark shining your love into my life
You've been my inspiration
Through the lies you were the truth
My world is a better place because of you..." - - "Because You Loved Me", Celine Dion
2. "...You believe in me
I'll believe in you
If we believe in each other
Nothing we can't do
If we got love that's strong enough
Love will find a way..." - -"Love Can Move Mountains", Celine Dion
3. "...Just smile for me and let the day begin
You are the sunshine that lights my heat within
I'm sure that you're an angel in disguise
Come take my hand and together we will rise..." - - "On The Wings Of Love", Jeffrey Osborne
You can also use a limerick, (as long as it's clean), or part of a poem. Whatever you use, just make sure that it represents what you want to say. And, keep your bride's speech short! Don't let it go on for more than three or four minutes max!
Or, you can use a witty little saying in your speech. Maybe one of these will work for you:
1. Girls are like phones. We love to be held, talked to, but if you press the wrong button you'll get disconnected!
2. If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together.
3. A Joy Shared Is A Joy Made Double
4. It Used To Be Wine, Women & Song; Now It's Beer, The Old Lady and TV.
5. The Road Of Life Is Made Smoother When Traveled With Someone We Love
