Jon and Kate- Another Couple Ruined by Television

The Television Curse

I really do not understand why everyone is treating the Jon and Kate situation like it is the only time a couple broke up during or after a reality show. I do, however, understand the significance of the eight children. I'm sure everyone can agree that we do not want to see the kids suffer. There was a lot of speculation about Jon cheating and getting his own place and all that. Kate was no angel either as she treated Jon like a little baby. As normal, civilized people, we need to throw all of this aside and realize that we, the American public, do not know what happened each and every single hour of their lives. Remember, it is only a one hour television show.

There is one thing that the American public can learn from the Jon and Kate divorce and that is families (or just couples for that matter) should not try and get their own reality show. Why do I say this? Well, because there were couples besides Jon and Kate that broke up during or after a reality show. One couple that comes to mind, of course, is Nick and Jessica. I'm sure many of us remember them from the reality show simply titled Newlyweds. The show ran for a couple of seasons and while it appeared that they were in love, there may have been problems that were not seen on camera. After just two seasons on the show, Nick and Jessica divorced. It was this reality show that really put them into the spotlight and it is very possible that this caused them to grow apart. The good thing here is that they had no kids.

Another family and couple that divorced after filming a reality show was Hulk (Terry) Hogan and his estranged wife Linda. They were married for over twenty years and filmed the much watched Hogan Knows Best which ran for four seasons. It wasn't too long after the filming when things started to go downhill. First, their son Nick got into a bad car accident which paralyzed a friend and then troubles in paradise between Hulk and Linda came into existence with the tabloids. Sure enough, the couple is now divorced.

So as one can see, there is a pattern between divorce and reality TV shows. Relationships and reality television just do not mix. Take the time to think about how you would feel if cameras were in your face and bad things were said about you in the tabloids. All of this publicity cannot be good for the kids either.
