Jon & Kate Plus 8: Golden Ratio Saves Kate

Jon & Kate Plus 8 is the reality TV show documenting the daily lives of Jon & Kate plus their preschool sextuplets and young twins. Jon & Kate Plus 8 is so popular that The Learning Channel often airs a string of successive episodes. But Kate has generated a firestorm, due to the shabby way she treats her husband, plus her temper tantrums.

Despite that, Kate has many supporters. Watch enough episodes of Jon & Kate Plus 8, and you will get a good dose of Kate's tempestuous behavior. So why does Kate have so many supporters? Her husband doesn't deserve to be berated in public, or at home. Though many of Jon & Kate Plus 8 fans are exhausted mothers with many children, I have to suspect that some of Kate's popularity ties directly to her LOOKS.

If Kate looked like Janet Reno, come on, she wouldn't be so popular. Though Kate doesn't have the "perfect" body, she certainly has the ideal face. Mathematically, her face appears to be perfect. Though you may think her hairdo can be more flattering (bigger, fluffier, curlier, perhaps), her facial features are in ideal proportion. I can tell by simply viewing her.

These proportions can be translated to a number: 61.8 percent. Or, to put it another way: a ratio: 1 to 1.618. This is called the Golden Ratio. It's found all over nature in things that are considered very visually appealing.

Golden Ratio All Over Nature

A classic example of the Golden Ratio is the inner chambers of the nautilus shell. A cross section reveals that the size of each chamber is 1.618 times bigger than the preceding chamber. This is called the Golden Spiral, and is also present in the relative proportions of the spirals in spiral galaxies. This mathematical relationship is also found in rose petals, but in a different way: The number of petals per "turn" of the overall petals.

The petals correlate to these numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13. What's the next number in this sequence? It's 21. Continue the sequence: 34, 55, 89...

Have you figured out the pattern? This is called the Fibonacci pattern: one plus two equals three; two plus three equals five; three plus five equals eight; five plus eight equals thirteen, and so on.

Now get this: Divide any of these numbers (as low as 3) by the next number in the sequence, and what do you get? Approximately .61 !

This pattern is prevalent in nature and can actually predict rabbit, bee and human population proliferation. It's also applicable to stock market trends, and can be converted to musical compositions. In fact, it's used in classical music composer Claude Debussy's works; sound can have mathematical correlations.

Beauty Is in the Genes.

One human DNA molecule measures 21 by 34 angstroms (an angstrom is a unit of measurement). 21 and 34 are numbers in the Fibonacci pattern. 21 divided by 34 is .617. This ratio is found when key components of animals' bodies are measured, including tails and fins on whales, and anatomy of insects.

So what's this got to do with Kate's face? The faces that people deem as "beautiful" or flawless are studded with the Golden Ratio when their components are measured, such as:

1) Width of the nose relative to width of mouth

2) Length of face relative to its width

3) Distance from center of one eye to the other, relative to distance of nasal bridge to (I believe) bottom of chin.

4) There are a host of other measuring guidelines of the human face, and this Golden Ratio can also be found in "perfect sets" of teeth, plus visually appealing ears!

In fact, a facial surgeon named Stephen Marquardt has developed a two-dimensional "beauty mask" or template based on the Golden Ratio, that fits perfectly over the photo faces of fashion models and other peoples' faces that are considered attractive and symmetrical, such as that of George Clooney.

The more unattractive a face, the less it fits the superimposed mask.

Can all of this be a coincidence? It's unlikely that if you look hard enough in nature for a particular ratio, you'll eventually find it coming up so frequently. Our DNA has this Golden Ratio. The distribution of sunflower seeds on the flower head has the Golden Ratio. A perfectly proportioned human physique has the Golden Ratio, including length of hand relative to length of forearm. And that beauty mask template fits perfectly over the faces of people with very attractive faces.

The mask applies to BOTH genders and ALL races. You can have men and women from India, Africa, Asia, Northern Europe, South America and the South Seas who fit the standards for facial beauty or handsomeness...and though they may all look very different from one another (African man vs. East Indian woman vs. Asian woman vs. Scandinavian man), they will all fit perfectly into that mask.

I can tell by viewing Kate that her face fits the template very snuggly. We are naturally drawn to ideal mathematical proportions, which is why good-looking criminal defendants are less likely to be found guilty, and good-looking people are more likely to be promoted on the job.

The Golden Ratio is found extensively in ancient as well as modern architecture, paintings, sculpture and engineering, including that of bridges, airplanes and automobiles, plus even violins. So visually pleasing is this ratio, that it's used frequently in print ads. Example: an ad depicting a glass of wine. The height of the level of the wine is 61 percent the height of the glass (excluding stem). Measure knickknacks and ornaments in your house for the Golden Ratio. It also comes up in rugs, bars of soap, and pieces of furniture that involve shelving divisions.

Get one of your credit cards. Measure its width, then length. Divide the width measurement by length measurement. What do you get?
