Jon & Kate Plus 8 Recap of Divorce Episode

Should the Show Be Renamed Kate Plus 8?

Karen Bishop
Tonight's episode began with the delivery of the "Crooked Houses." Jon, concerned about the paparazzi, cleared land in the woods. He felt it was the best place to shield the children from cameras while they play.

Kate did not like the location because of the distance. Luckily, with the delivery guys on hand, a compromise was reached and World War III was prevented. The kids will be able to play in their "Crooked Houses," while being shielded from the paparazzi by a row of trees.

In between setup of the houses, we get tidbits from Jon & Kate. The narrating is done separately instead of together, as we are used to seeing them. We got a taste of this during the last episode. Some of the dialogue is about the events of the day, while we were teased with personal tidbits on the state of their relationship.

The "Crooked Houses" are cute and the kids are thrilled to have houses of their own. We have the pirate boys, the gardening girly girls, a vet and a goth girl. The personalities of Cara and Maddy are starting to emerge. Their houses clearly reflect their diverging interests.

The angsty tidbits from Jon & Kate about their relationship begins hitting closer and closer to home as the show continues. We knew they would wait until the last couple of minutes of the show to make the big announcement.

Jon admits to sitting back and letting Kate "rule the roost," while she tells us this has been coming on for a long time, not just since the show began or even the last few months.

Then came the big moment, they announce they are separating. Each word they spoke centered on doing what is best for the kids. I want to believe Jon & Kate will put the children first, no matter what.

Jon & Kate also hope their future relationship may be better, especially in the communication department. No matter what may happen, we can only hope they live up to their commitment of doing what is best for the kids.

Just before the show goes off the air, we get the "official" news. On June 22, 2009 legal proceedings were begun to dissolve the marriage of Jon & Kate. It is not just a separation as we thought, but a divorce and the end of Jon & Kate as a couple.

Those poor kids. I heard recently that the show is also stopping. Im assuming that is because there is no Jon and Kate anymore. I hope they can move past their differences and put the kids first, although most times that doesnt happen.

It's too bad they couldn't last, but more than half of all marriages fail nowadays, so I guess it's to be expected. Unlike many folks(not here) I have a lot more sympathy for Kate then I do Jon.. Good job on the recap.

Good recap of Jon & Kate. Personally, I think they are both idiots!

How sad! Thanks for the heads up, as I didn't see the show.

My parents divorced when I was little. It was bad with much yelling and screaming every single night. I feel for them because I have been there. You're right Kayla, that is a very good word to use, and one I have used, dysfunctional.

I hope the kids come first, but I saw this coming. One dysfunctional relationship in my opinion.

This is really sad. I feel bad for those children!
