Jon & Kate Plus 8 Season Finale: Think Outside the Box

Monday's "Announcement" May Not Be About a Divorce

The beloved TLC reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8" has all the news outlets powering the rumor mill. Previews for the season finale show the couple vaguely addressing an upcoming announcement in a somber tone, leading many to theorize that the couple may be getting a divorce. Yet Reality TV World reports on March 9, 2009 that Jon "denied rumors that his marriage is on the rocks". Jon & Kate renewed their wedding vows on a recent episode, and it would seem odd to have a vow renewal episode closely followed by a divorcing episode. That seems to give hope to their relationship, and backing to my theory that there's definitely more possibilities for what the upcoming announcement will be.

Everyone seems to be taking the easy route and assuming the announcement is in reference to Jon's alleged cheating, yet there are many other possibilities that seem much more plausible. The main one that comes to mind is pretty simple - they are going to end the show. There are three main reasons why I see this as a major possibility.

The first big hint comes from the new commercials popping up on TLC for a new show about a family with multiple sets of multiples called "Table for 12". This may be a sign that TLC is trying to find a replacement for Jon & Kate, if the couple has decided to end the series. Another issue that may be a factor in the demise of the show is that the sextuplets will be starting school soon, and thus eliminating a large amount of the shows substance. And the obvious but overlooked reason could be that the family is simply getting tired of being in the spotlight, especially after the recent accusations and drama about cheating and divorce. It seems logical that a media blowup like that could cause the couple to seriously reconsider the pros and cons to continuing the show.

The show will end eventually, one way or another, so lets look at one other option for what the announcement could be. In the previews for Monday's upcoming season finale, Jon mentions that they are in an "odd place" and says this is "difficult for me, on my end". Given these comments and the current economy, I think it's a possibility that Jon may be having problems with work, to the point of even losing his current job. Everyone is struggling right now, and people we watch on TV aren't exempt from these hardships.

Yes, there is still the possibility that they are contemplating divorce. But it's interesting to think outside the box and explore what else their announcement will be. Regardless, I'm sure that all the buzz over this will make for incredible ratings and an exciting season finale.

I think it would be so terribly challenging to have the most painful and embarassing personal relationship failure happen at such a public level. I do not judge them for what they did not do, but can see how much they did do, and that they want all the best for thier children the way we all do..I wish them the best and hope that they can find a way to work together not married...my experience found that much harder to work together when the divorce is final...and I had a successful divorce...I hope that the press and the cameras can find something else to focus on while that family attempts to heal from the death blow that divorce brings...my prayers will be with all of them as they srart on this new and challenging path.

Yes, it is about divorce. So, so, so sad. Where was the counseling? "We want what is best for the kids". Best for the kids is Mom and Dad staying true to their Marriage vows.

They've already announced what they're going to announce.. the group over at vostuu found out already and uploaded it to their site. But they make you do a questionnaire before they let you see the "behind the scenes" video where you can see Kate and Jon make the announcement. Anyway, it's over at http://vostuu.com/watch28015.html

Even if it is a divorce I still feel really sorry for Cara and Mady I mean they had Jon and Kate when it was just the two of them and I also feel sorry for the sextuplets and personally I feel sorry for jon and kate. I have been praying for them that they would be able to work things out. It won't be the same watching john and kate plus 8 if they continue the show. I'm praying for you Gosselins..)=

I think that maybe the announcement is that they are not coming back and that it's their last episode.

I hope that you're right, but I don't think so. Or maybe it's both things - the show is canceled and Jon & Kate are getting a divorce. I don't know, but I do know this is hard to watch.

I also find it odd that we're all writing and talking about this on Father's Day, as Jon seems to be able to walk away and start over while Kate is in the same house, picking up the pieces of a life she's already been living.

I just wrote about it here: http://www.betterwaymoms.com/articles/jon-and-kates-announcement

I wish them both a lot of luck...so sad.

I liked watching the show in the begining it was more like a normal family. Now it's not too interesting just about how rich people live, going to the spa, going on a trip every week, having a custom bike build etc. I still watch it sometimes with hopes it would show some happy times. I do hope jon and kate can make it.
